Here at the retirement village, we get cable included in our monthly payments, along with lawn mowing and snow plowing. We are able to negotiate a decent rate, but not a great one, since we only have 900 units. The places with 15,000 units, they get a great rate.

Our cost is about $65 a month per unit for cable with lots of channels, but not premium ones, and cable internet.

Get a couple of external HDs, and few Chromecasts (or similar) and you will seriously never run out of entertainment options before you run out of hours in a day.

It's a good list of free apps. But, there are low-cost, bootleg streaming services that will get you every channel in the country, every movie channel, every league pass and every major PPV for anywhere from $7 to $20 a month.

Streaming can be complicated but what you need to subscribe to one of these services is an Amezon Firestick, the downloader and Filelink app and You Tube tutorials online about IPTVs.

Adding to your post, there is also “Philo” ($20./mo.) No “news channels”, just a lot of entertainment type channels including History, A&E, Discovery, AMC, Hallmark, Inspiration, etc.).

Also, “Sling” ($30-$60. depending on channel choices) By the nice guy that brought you “Dish Network” satellite. Has all the “cable” channels.

You mentioned that you are involved in financial/investment business...where do you go to get Bloomberg and/or CNBC? Or do you do without or use another source of financial news? “Sling” that I mentioned has them both but am looking to keep my monthly TV streaming budget under $30. or so.

Also, don’t forget “FOTA” TV (”free over the air”)....many more channels available now due to the digital transition (regular old “analog” TV antenna is fine to receive digital signals):

I cut cable fifteen years ago. I surf the internet on my iPad which is my main Wi-Fi connection, and download content thru Amazon Prime to several Amazon HD10 Fire Tablets via free public Wi-Fi at library, church, McDonald’s and then play back these movies, music, and books at home. I pay $8.65/mo for upgraded Amazon music service and $12.99/mo for books on Kindle Unlimited, but I use all these services. Amazon Prime is $144/yr.

I have Sling Orange (indulge me its college football season) + off the street antenna for free coverage. Serves and back up too if the I Net goes down WHICH IT DID DAILY PRIOR WITH SPECTRUM. 45 channels off the pole. Try using Amex for any streaming service payments, another 6% off there.

If you want to do the antenna thing - work with SolidSignal.com. If they don't have it, you don't need it. Plus TVFool.com to point you (literally) in the right direction for antenna placement.

Lastly check out PlutoTV for free under ROKU you will be surprised how much selection they carry.

We cut the cord at my house in April 2019 and couldn’t imagine going back.

Pluto TV is free and has a bunch of conservative news content. Lot’s of stuff in general to watch on there and it is free. Peacock is also free and has a bunch of old series and movies. I just added the $5 a month upgrade so I can watch Yellowstone. I have also been watching episodes of the Rockford Files which is a darn good show.

We have:
Hulu Streaming so I can watch the Golf Channel and football. (I know, I’m a junkie. I just can’t not watch it. It is one of the things that makes me happy) Hulu has ton’s of movies and stuff to stream.
Netflix
Amazon Prime with subs to Acorn, Britbox and PBS Masterpiece Theater channels.
Disney + which I thought I cancelled a while back but just did.

With those channels and all the freebies available on Roku there is more to watch than I could ever possibly go through and more and different are added all the time.

I have OTA antennas for most of my TV’s. Mainly for watching sports. The picture quality is so superior and it saves using streaming data.

I quit watching cable news about 5 years ago. I have access to it but don’t ever turn it on. Better things to watch on my viewing time that don’t piss me off.
