In 1953, Senator Joseph McCarthy's House Un-American Activities Committee unearthed a disturbing fact: Lucille Ball was a member of the Communist Party. This revelation came only two years into the I Love Lucy phenomenon that besotted Americans simply called "The Show." Now the future of The Show and Lucille Ball's hard-won career hung by a thread.
As it turns out, Lucy was no more Communist than you or I. As a young woman, she'd signed a Communist Party card to please her beloved grandfather who became a Communist after he lost his entire life's savings in a court battle after a freak accident left a neighbor child paralyzed. It was enough for the FBI to keep a file on her.
Still, The Show must go on. Desi Arnaz handled the situation beautifully. In the first I Love Lucy episode taped after Lucy's Communist link hit the headlines, he introduced her to the studio audience as, "And the only thing red about her is her hair, and that isn't even real." Lucy ran out on stage and bowed, ran to the other side of the stage and bowed. There was thunderous applause and Americans love Lucy to this day.
So why did I tell you that story?
Family and Friends
Because we all have family and friends who are voting the Biden/Harris ticket.
For Trump supporters, that is utterly unconscionable. Unthinkable. Illogical. Communist. Socialist. unAmerican. Bizarre. (Don't run out of adjectives, Dear!)
While I admit to purging my Facebook Friends List of vicious Trump haters I don't personally know, I kept all my friends who are loudly and proudly Biden/Harris supporters because I know them to be warm, kind, supportive, pleasant people in real life. Some of them have known me from infancy and were wonderful when my own family (Republicans all!) threatened to sue me for being the whistleblower who revealed decades of abuse within our family.
That leaves me in the same conundrum America felt about Lucille Ball's Communist connections.
I need to dig into the "why" behind the "wherefore" and try to understand my friends' reasoning to see if they're really, as M*A*S*H* 4077's Frank Burns would say, "Commie pinkos" or if they're about as Communist as Lucille Ball. This is me trying to respectfully figure out how the heck they can vote Biden/Harris.
The Survey
Each election year, I pose the same question to my Democrat Facebook friends: "Please explain the pro reasons you're voting Democrat. No anti-Republican reasons. Only pro-Democrat reasons."
It's a sad statement on American politics when both sides of the aisle consider their votes less for their own party's candidate and more against the other party's ticket. All that changed for Republicans when Trump ran as a Republican.

Who Do You Believe?
As far as I can tell, my friends who are voting for Biden/Harris are just as America-loving as I am. They use all the same words to support Biden that I use to support Trump: liberty, freedom, patriotism, America.
The only difference is that they believe the Mainstream Media as fervently as you and I disbelieve the Mainstream Media. Frankly, if we Conservatives believed the MSM, we'd believe "Orange man, bad" too.
If we're being honest, Donald Trump has been accused of (almost) as many horrible things as Biden. Everything from adultery to statutory rape, from tax fraud to using his office for monetary gain, from homophobia to racism. You and I don't believe a word of it because his actions prove the opposite...just as Biden supporters don't believe a word of the allegations against Joe, Hunter and Kamala either because...because...yeah, I got nothin'.
The only difference is the Conservative media we believe has morals based on Judeo-Christian values and the Ten Commandments while, we believe, the Liberal media are atheists with no moral compass except power, money and winning, at all cost, by any means, fair or foul including bald faced lies. They can't all be sued for defamation!
Surprisingly to me, even Joe's blatant racism, plan to raise taxes, China and Ukraine connections and the revelations on Hunter Biden's laptop haven't changed anything for committed Biden/Harris supporters. In fact, it created the martyr affect. Secret Biden/Harris supporters are now being loud and proud, putting up yard signs, declaring their allegiance on Facebook. Frankly, that takes courage as Hunter's pedophilia becomes known and Biden/Harris supporters become more and more of a minority.
Or maybe they vote the Democrat ticket, regardless of who's on it, for the same reason Lucy joined the Communist Party in name only. "Grandpa did and he'd roll in his grave if I vote Republican." Or because they're union or farmers. Or because they're frightened and don't want to have to lie to their Liberal family. Or because they have a pet issue like, I dunno, welfare or abortion.
Before You Vote, Listen to This Guy
The wonderful thing about Americans is that we're all passionate about our beliefs and we're all Resolute Desk Jockeys. We're invested, we're informed and we're interested in our government. That's awesome!
All I hope is that you're sure you're being told the truth about your candidate. As the signs say: "F**k your feelings." This is about facts Not the same old debunked lies and allegations. Remember, we're not marrying the President! Just picking the Executive Branch of Government and Commander-In-Chief. "C'mon man!"
Donald Trump may be a lot of things but his record over the last four years backs up his words at each and every rally. He's telling the truth. He's a patriot. He serves for no pay. He's repeatedly demonstrated acceptance of every race, color, creed and sexual orientation. He loves America more than his own life. He does what he says he's going to do and we're all better off for it.
But I can't say it nearly as eloquently as the guy in this video so I'll end with, "What he said."

I also have a friend just like yours. She posts anti-Republican things constantly on FB and is lucky to get 3 likes, but it doesn’t dissuade her.
I’ve thought for a long time that she hates Republicans because she had to have her baby and had to marry the father in the pre-Roe v Wade days. Maybe she resents how her life turned out and blames the Republicans somehow, even tho they’ve been happily (?) married for 50 years. That’s the only reason I can think of for her Republican-hatred.
They cannot support their beliefs through rational arguments. They are impossible to reason with. They are adult children.

You don’t try to “fundamentally transform” something you love. They don’t love America. In fact, they hate it with a passion. What they love is a leftist/socialist vision of “utopia” with the name “America” attached to it.
. When leftists speak of “America”, they’re not talking about the same thing we are, and they’re certainly not talking about the underlying principles upon which this country is founded. The vision they have in their heads when they speak of “America” is a country dominated by leftists, in which they can behave any way they see fit, without consequence or criticism. In their “America”, evil is good and good is evil, and anyone who would disagree with them or criticize their deviancy should be ostracized, “cancelled”, and even jailed. They also foresee an “America” where everything they desire is free, and the all-powerful state will ensure that no unpleasantness will ever enter their sheltered, snowflake lives.
So remember all of that when your leftist friends claim to love America. They’re not lying about it per se, they’re just delusional and have no idea what America is.
Joseph McCarthy was far, FAR more right about people in the government who were involved with communism than he was wrong.

I can only shake my head at this. Lenora Thompson, you have no idea what you are talking about there.
If you want to use a foil, use someone other than Joseph McCarthy, who SHOULD be an American Hero.
It is comments such as yours, intentional or not, that continue this travesty.
If you really are interested in accuracy, and interested in what Joseph McCarthy was about, read “Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America’s Enemies” by M. Stanton Evans.
It displays pure and utter ignorance.
When I see that, it is a clear sign they have no idea, none whatsoever of what they speak.
Still makes me angry. Joseph McCarthy bought this country several decades by making communism “unfashionable”.
