I thought Lennon had moved to the US to escape high British taxes. He "imagined" lower taxes.

The Anthology box with the hours of outtakes, there's one where John Lennon expounds on, "There's nothing wrong with being rich." and sounds like a full-on Tory for 4 minutes.
In fact ima d'ld that and find the exact quote...

He also said he was somewhat embarrassed by his earlier works like Imagine.
That is the dumbest comment of the day. It is the last song he ever recorded.

Really? That was recorded in March of 71. He lived another nine years. And several albums..

He "imagined" lower taxes. If memory serves me, someone in his income range was paying about 60% when he left.

His last album was titled “Imagine” and had a remake of the song as we know it. He was murdered about a week after its release.

The Government of Margaret Thatcher, who favoured indirect taxation, reduced personal income tax rates during the 1980s.[18] In the first budget after her election victory in 1979, the top rate was reduced from 83% to 60% and the basic rate from 33% to 30%.[19] The basic rate was also cut for three successive budgets to 29% in the 1986 budget, 27% in 1987 and to 25% in 1988.[20] The top rate of income tax was cut to 40% in the 1988 budget. The investment income surcharge was abolished in 1985. That is from Wikipedia.
You were close to right about the high rate. Not quite 90% but close. I guess I was thinking about the 1980s in the Thatcher era.
Thatcher did great things for her country. It is too bad that they reversed so much of the progress she made.
