Biden makes it clear that for the sake of our Nation, everyone must do their job. That's why the President [Obama] did his job by nominating Chief Judge Merrick Garland. Now, it's time for the Senate Republicans to do their job...

EVERY NOMINEE, INCLUDING JUSTICE KENNEDY—IN AN ELECTION YEAR—GOT AN UP OR DOWN VOTE BY THE SENATE. NOT MUCH OF THE TIME. NOT MOST OF THE TIME. EVERY SINGLE TIME. THAT’S THE CONSTITUTION’S CLEAR RULE OF ADVICE AND CONSENT.

FOR THE SAKE OF THE COUNTRY WE LOVE—WE ALL HAVE TO DO OUR JOB. THE PRESIDENT HAS DONE HIS. SENATE REPUBLICANS MUST DO THEIRS.

If they can hold this off, they can make this an election issue-vote for biden, stop Trump’s justice!

If it’s over before the election, that take a lit of wind out of the sails on this issue.

If it weren't for double standards, Democrats would have no standards at all.

Anyone who isn’t sure Biden is in a severely deteriorating condition, should have a look at that video.

Kennedy was the third pick. They shot down Bork and Douglas Ginzburg.

Democrats had played politics throughout 1987 and did finally approve Kennedy in 1988, an election year.

Actually Abe Fortas was filibustered (would have been defeated had it gone to a floor vote, and then resigned even his associate justice post)...but that’s not an option any longer.

of course, he was lying.

in all but one case when the senate was the same party, the nominee was confirmed. yhe one failylure was abe fortas.

in only ONE case tmdid a president of the opposinf party get a nominee confirmed, and that was a deal.

The thing about Kennedy was that he was the third nomination sent for confirmation.

What was the sample size?

Actually figuring it out is harder than it looks.
Earl Warren’s retirement wasn’t effective until 1969.

for same party, 17 of 19. fortas the exception. one had to be held for constitutional reason to the 1st day of the next session.

for split party, 1 of 8 before election. 2 more after election, both deals made that mede it worth it.

point being, the 2016 move was in tradition, but with few examples.

but the idea that a party would reject their own president’s nominee? unheard of. only hspoened 1 out of 19, and that one got filibustered by a majority.

i think milkulski should be kicked out of the party. she ran as an independent agsinst a republican. she is not in a race, and wants to concede a pick by her own party.

I’ll have to sit down and figure it out some day...it’s harder than it looks.
Who was the semi-exception in the 17/19?

Kennedy was the 1/8.

washington nominated a guy who had worked on the creation of the court, and the constitution required that one election pass before he could be put on the court.
