Miami-Dade has long been republican leaning. Hispanics are primarily Cuban. No shock there.

Woah! Miami Dade has long been Leftist Democrat leaning thanks to all the retired New Yawkahs and Joisssssssseyites who have moved there. Cubans in particular have leaned Republican for a long time because they’ve actually experienced socialism. The Cubans help to tamp down the extra Democrat votes coming out of Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. The other 64 counties in Florida then overwhelm Miami and keep Florida as a red state.

You mean THIS Miami-Dade?

Miami-Dade County has voted for the Democratic Party candidate in most of the presidential elections in the past four decades, and has gone Democratic in every election since 1992. From 1904 to 1972 it supported the Democratic candidate in all but four elections. In 2008 and 2012 approximately 59.69% of the electorate voted for Democrat Barack Obama. In 2016, Democrat Hillary Clinton won 63.22% of the vote.
