New York City likely in trouble for another generation or even more

Just a year before David Berkowitz started his infamous crime spree, and two years before the carnage of looting and broken glass of the blackout of 1977, New York City stood at the edge of an abyss. It faced bankruptcy and spiking crime. When you stepped off the plane in 1975 at Laguardia Airport, you were greeted with a pamphlet emblazoned with a skull and bold letters that said “Welcome to Fear City.”

The survival guide offered stark advice on how to hide your property, how to avoid violence and robberies, and most of all, “until things change, stay away from New York City if you possibly can.” Plainclothes police officers handed them out as a clear warning. Now there is further tumult almost a generation later. Step out of a cab in Brooklyn or the Bronx today and the same pamphlet may as well be making the rounds.

You get what you vote for.

And for those who don’t bother to vote, like Neal Peart wrote, “If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.”

Things exist either because there is a compelling need for them to exist or because they survive on momentum from the past.

I think big cities today mostly lack any compelling need to exist. And NYC has lost a huge amount of momentum. I think it will topple and be somewhat like Detroit.

They’re going to need another Mayor like Rudy Giuliani or Fiorello LaGuardia to save the city.

Not likely. New York City has a very diverse economy, and if you can get another Mayor like Rudy Giuliani, it will revive in no time flat.

We saw a huge spike in crime after we move from incarceration to rehabilitation and reform. Why we would go back to that system makes no sense.

Back when SNL was funny.

They had a commercial for a new model car.

Looked like a POS from the outside, luxury inside.

It’s toast. Money doesn’t just magically come back. It will remain an unremarkable burned-out crowded hellhole like many other failed democrat controlled cities.

New York will never be the same. With ess density it may actually get better in time. But for the interim, it’s a disaster.

I get the bad feeling that Rudy is too strongly linked to Bush, not to mention he tries to speak on Trump’s defense too much.

Imagine 09/11/2001 and DeBlasio in place of Rudi. Are you happy with the substitution?

What? Rudy Giuliani is 76 years old.

There is no talk of a strong leader in any of the environmental runoff BCP- soaked boys in the 35-55 y/o age span to tackle this issue.

Libs can hate strong men and prevent birth all they want. This is one of the results.
