What I sent to to the customer service chat line and someone named Daniel regurgitated the non apology of the CEO and then disconnected.
CEO apology that should have been: "You know what - I had no idea this crap was being taught at our company and I have fired the contractors and those that hired the contractors. We make tires - Our employees can support whoever they want and wear whatever slogans they want, as long as they keep making tires.
If you are a good year customer we thank you, if not gives us a try - our tires are black, but they work well on any colored car!"
“Their repair shops are ripoff centers anyway.”
Yep, I always try a use a local service center but if Pep Boys is always a better deal with better service than Goodyear, that’s a problem. :)
You contradict yourself.
Frontline Goodyear employees used to wear uniforms. They should go back to that and avoid this nonsense.
I’ve been running coopers for years on my one ton diesel (so heavy truck), and they’re far better than the duratracs anyways (Goodyear). They perform far better and last longer.
I have started to go to local small restaurants and order to go.
If I am around for a while, I get their number and ask if I can call in the order and pick it up.
Virtually every one will do that.
Support the small folks, they appreciate the customer-or at least the ones I have dealt with do. If they indicate views they one doesnt like, go someplace else.
My experience as well.
None of my three vehicles wear Goodyear tires, and they never will.
‘It turned mutual fund managers into some of the most powerful people in the world. And it turned corporations into puppets of wall street analysts.”
I watched a bunch of corporate investors purchase a corporations forest lands in the UP of Mich, that were set up for long term high quality hardwood saw timber and completely destroy them.
An investment outfit out of Boston who called themselves GMO bought International Paper land and virtually clear cut Grade “A” hardwood sawtimber land. All kinds of excuses.
That land will never produce that type of timber again-EVER!
Not 100% true.We have a mom and pop store hear that has been selling Human Skin Lampshades since the 40s . Same family has owned and operated the business and provided jobs for 1000s over the years. Expanded to 2 neighboring towns and been successful there also. They do business the old fashioned way. Solid service OUTSTANDING word of mouth warranty and just good folks all the way around. Been sponsoring little league teams for 40 years, active in POSITIVE ways in our community since before I was born. (I am nearly 60). Saved my bacon in college with handshake credit on a set of Human Skin Lampshades for my bedroom. Its very sad that Dachau could be the reason that they have to change horses. They will survive because its in their DNA too. It will just be a lot harder. I had rather pay for Lampshades from that family than take free ones somewhere else.

Yep. And the folks in the back office should wear casual business attire. Anything else is harmful to the company.
For example, imagine a guy wearing a BLM shirt working next to a guy wearing a Blue Lives Matter shirt. That wouldnt do a whole lot for team morale.
I left a very polite, but firm, message on the Goodyear customer service line that because of their policy, my little family (husband, 20 year old, 18 year old, and I) with 5 cars between us (two trucks, a car, a minivan, plus our spare truck) will no longer purchase their tires.
Truck tires run about 400 each. That is several thousand dollars worth of business every few years that they will no see from us.
Such propaganda only works when people believe they have no alternative. Wikileaks proved otherwise.
I worked for a big regional bank in New England. You might even say they named a “garden” in Boston.
I would watch the analysts come in every quarter and they would tell the President and Treasurer what their expectations were for the next quarter.
Lo and behold, those were our targets.
If we did not hit the targets, the analysts would change the predication and the stock price would tank, and we would not be able to compete the next quarter. It was like some bizarre “survivor” realty show.
The ONLY way we could prevent this from happening was to buy up smaller banks. We were buying and incorporating small banks with 10-15 branches at a rate of one every three months. And when we did that, the back office operations at those banks would disappear.
I worked in their online and call center portion of the business. Every time we would go into a new bank, we would easily wipe out about 100 operations and support staff. We would tend to leave the tellers and branches alone. But back office was just “removed.”
This was all because the analysts—who never worked in a retail banking setting—would establish their “goals” which were designed to bring in at least 10% annually.
Can you imagine having to grow your profit by 10% per year, every year, for the foreseeable future? To suggest it is unlikely is an understatement. But, that was the early 2000’s in our business.
I took my options, cashed out, and started my own business. Who needs that crap, every day for years on end?
“was driving on a donut”
That is very dangerous.
It ain’t just tires. We’re talking belt & hoses too.
I honestly believe the people at the corporate office knew nothing of this crap.
But their response was late, and it was lame.
Personally, I would never allow a political garb in my offices. They are not “business” attire. And they are incendiary. It doesn’t matter if the shirt says BLM or MAGA—I would send them home.
In my office we were “professionals” and as such, our focus was the customer. Allowing political discussions of that kind in a workplace is “dangerous” for productivity.
There ARE ways to get that message across without being ham fisted about it. Evidently, the person doing the training at this local Goodyear factory never got the “train the trainer” session.
My wife works in corporate PR. She literally did a spit-take when she saw what was going on at Goodyear. She just shook her head when she saw the anemic response from the Corporate headquarters.
In most PR situations, the response need only be “common sense.” Instead, they tried to be “woke.” They try to dance on the head of a needle. That’s not a good plan.
Well, maybe the brush was a little broad. So I will restrict my comments to Goodyear tires -—
They make Tires of Color.
If you say Colored Tires you will be Fired.
“Same can be said for me RE Chick-fil-A. I liked their sammiches, but to heck withem.”
