You cannot explain it. Pure unadulterated misery in every corner. Its a million times worse than you could fathom. The most singularly depressing town in the entire universe. And if you know anyone who enjoys it here, that tells you just how far disconnected they are from the rest of our nation. There is nothing here except misery and functionaries, human robots, carrying through with their duties without any idea why.
When I say this is a lifeless soulless place. You must imagine my new context to really understand it. Staying in a hotel with only one, perhaps a handful, of other guest(s) is a rather remarkable sense of living amid COVID-19 misery in real life.
Yes, its like a living example of The Shining, sans the death-knock of the twins in the middle of the night. That is correct. Trump International DC and NO GUESTS. Its a desolate, depressing, empty dystopian hotel nightmare hidden from all normal people in America including me. I had no idea the metastasized rot had already spread to the central nervous system. Eric needs to consider selling this place, and fast.
Restaurants closed. Everything closed. Lights out. DARK. Want to eat, go to the grocery store and hope for bologna and some bread. Everything on television/internet is disconnected from reality. I know, Im here.
From what I can tell the DC mayor has targeted her closures in a manner as to inflict the maximum damage on Trump properties and holdings. I would estimate Trump International DC is bleeding around $100k per day currently/ perhaps more depending on how much air conditioning they shut down.
DC as a whole is the same. An 8:00pm walk and you see nothing a city completely devoid of life . no cars no people nothing. A few rats scurrying from sidewalk to planter shelf, and a few scooters laying sideways in the middle of the sidewalk with ever dimming green circles as the batteries pulsate and run out.
I mean this town is dead.
The word misery is so far removed from the depressed stares amid the soulless eyes, that it would take a thousand years of bliss for a glimmer of hope to reappear. This place is an abhorrent Potemkin village of what appears on the nightly news about it.
This is my first visit as a non-tourist. So I am able to see the people who are attempting to manage their way through this nightmare. It is far, far worse than anything you can imagine.
Be thankful for your local debate about schools opening, wearing masks and assorted nuance. This is not that.
This town is the hollowed carcass of a cockroach still moving from the maggots that have taken the remaining source of nutrition. Every eye behind the mask shows misery, fear, and disconnection from the world we know you know.
Its bizarre and even though I have been here many times before, this time I simply cannot describe it adequately. DC is lost. Lost not because it has fallen ill to some COVID-19 infection, but literally lost to the premise of our nations capital.
There are no people here. There are robots trying to reach the charging stations.
For the first time in my life Im not sure I want President Trump to win another term. Who in their right mind would wish this on anyone.
More later .
Maybe
I do get frustrated with Trumps handling of this mostly because I want my life to go back to normal. But I dont know what he can do.
.................................................
Your second sentence is a good reason not to be frustrated with his handling of these problems. I think, given the fact that (1) he’s not God, and (2) he’s been confronted from all sides by massive opposition from the get-go, he’s done a spectacular job for all Americans. In fact, I can think of only a handful of people, past or present, who might possibly have done as well!
Isn’t that what liberal run enclaves are all about? Everyone is equally miserable.
I too was born, lived, and worked in DC for a total of 68 years. The week I retired I sold my home and headed for a recently purchased farm in the mountains 150 miles to the west. But it never occurred to me that D.C. was an overly subdued type of place, so I find your perspective fascinating!

I agree. Pre-COVID, my observation when taking a work trip into DC was ALWAYS seeing the streets filled with people taking their 1.5 - 2 hour lunch breaks or slipping out for a quick afternoon shopping or appointment trip before scurrying back to their government office position. Im sure that will quickly once again be the norm when all have to again show up at their office instead of pretending to work from home.
I’ve taught in some inner city settings. Almost every child is capable of learning. I was teaching Middle School math. If these kids and families had access to school choice, vouchers, home schooling and the like, they could succeed. There is only one choice for any of this to come to pass. President Trump is like a huge levee, holding back the flood of insanity, debauchery, and evil that is the modern day democRAT party. Evil grows when good people do nothing.
The writer reasons, “The Dems shut down DC - maybe we should get rid of Trump”?!! That’s the entire Dem misery strategy from the start. I read a DU article where Dems were gleefully saying that they would halt everything Trump would try to accomplish, shut everything down, endless lawsuits etc. to the point that when the next election came around, Republicans would “know better” than to elect Trump (or another republican).
If we start giving the Dems what they want, they’ll keep creating misery because it works.
I prefer this link to a celebratory post by Carlos Osweda:
https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1286067548769923078.html
Osweda is congratulating Trump on his re election, having exposed the Dems as crazy thugs.
So, the mayor’s got it locked down, but Trump is to blame.
That’s about par.
Trump has a load of Deep State/Big Pharma hacks at the top of his relevant agencies and task force, cranking out bogus numbers and data and recommendations. Thay is what is giving the local Dem pols cover.
“Cherry picking”
I assume you mean the sentence I highlighted. Call it what you will. When someone in the future says something you disagree with, I hope whoever you are talking to says, “Cherry picking.”
Who exactly would he prefer to be elected?
I was referring to the WRITER!....................
Exactly.
It’s time for him to double his dose of Xoloft.
This is NOT Trump's fault!!!
Sundance is on a super special secret mission outside the wire. Part of that shtick, I mean mission, is to impress his readers with his daring-do.
I like a lot of what this guy has done on the Trump coup, but he oftentimes wildly exaggerates a premiss while trying to connect dots that are not really there.
He’s been somewhat off the wall these past several weeks all the while viciously lashing out at his posters & claiming he’s flying around the country doing secret, important work.
We “lived” in the WDC area for 30+ years before escaping. It is truly hopeless there. Escape while you are still allowed to do so.
To give you a couple supportive examples of this article’s focus...
If you met someone at your neighborhood’s mailbox and introduced your self, they would often say “What do you want?” There was a saying in wdc...”If you want a friend, get a dog”. Pathetic but true.
And never forget why it is really a dead city. It is because everyone and I mean everyone, knows the criminal police will harrass, attack, arrest you and destroy your life with little or no thought and do it just because they are “following orders”.
Prove me wrong.
