I have to take issue with her explanation. The NYT has NEVER had a firm grasp of the country it covers and it has nothing to do about their ability to anticipate the outcome of the 2016 election. It's the most insular newsroom in the world which she actually admits a few paragraphs later:
Why edit something challenging to our readers, or write something bold only to go through the numbing process of making it ideologically kosher, when we can assure ourselves of job security (and clicks) by publishing our 4000th op-ed arguing that Donald Trump is a unique danger to the country and the world? And so self-censorship has become the norm.

This reminds me of a Woody Allen movie I saw long ago. In that movie, the wife/girlfriend of the Woody character in the movie, told the Woody character that he wouldn’t survive if he were off the island of Manhattan for more than 48 hours.
I wonder if that thinking applies to Woody personally, as well as the character in the movie.

The work environment inside the Washington Post is probably similar.
An admission by the press that they *do* have an ultimate goal in mind.
If she’s as smart as her writing indicates she has probably assembled quite a catalog of evidence against her relentless tormenters at the NYT.

I can’t even imagine working for a media source and trying to stay true to beliefs that go against the grain.
What you missed is that she is Jewish and she specifically cited several examples that could be interpreted as hostility due to her Jewish ethnicity/religion. So that could qualify as a “hostile environment” claim.

Mr. Jones, excellent movie on the subject made in 2019. He was the journalist who finally was able to break the story of the Holdomor, and inspired George Orwell to write his books.
This goes all the way up to the Editor in Chief, who appears either to ignore or to cultivate a myopic malaise that is sure to further marginalize what could otherwise be a spledid publication.
