One of my children is considering a move to Billings to take advantage of a good career opportunity. However, no one in our family or circle of friends has been there.
So I would really appreciate any input Freepers familiar with the area can provide!
Thanks much :)
*We have lived in Fargo and one of the kids lived in Grand Forks, North Dakota--may be some similarities for comparison....

My friend is convinced that she is "Ms. Right," that is, ALWAYS right. Nothing in this galaxy will convince her that she doesn't know MUCH more than I do or that ANYONE does.
I think it shows a LARGE lacuna in her ego.
She's not Catholic and had altered her views about the TEN COMMANDMENTS...NOT " 10 suggestions." She dismissed the "Keep Holy the Sabbath" COMMANDMENT, for example.
She is CONVINCED, without a shadow of a doubt, that all she MUST do is "BE NICE." That is a quote from her.
She IS nice and after knowing her since 1969 she has NEVER, EVER said a mean or nasty word to me. I think that's pretty special.
She hasn't been to a church since she was a little girl.
Her "medication" has always been food. 'Nuff said.
Ive had to go through Billings when visiting my sister in Lovell, WY. (I live near the Maine coast).
I like the place. You can tell how far you are from downtown by noticing the architecture of the area that you are in. The hospital serves a large geographical area and is the go-to hospital when a smaller, more rural hospital cant handle something.
There are refineries that you pass when entering or leaving the area.
This is louis and Clark territory with a rich Western History and Yellowstone National Park is not too far away.
The need for a garage is very real (snow etc.) and if cold and dry weather is a problem for anyone, A second thought might be wise.
You are in Tri-Cities?? We loved it there. Came back to Los Angeles because both the grandmas were here and we wanted our son to enjoy those relationships.
Perfect day here; I am at Leslie Groves Park.
Christopher Moore, in his novel Coyote Blue, describes how the Indians in that part of Montana didnt have to drive buffalo off the cliff. The buffalo would take a look, say, Oh crap, its Billings, and then jump.
Clearly buffalo are not fans of Billings ;)
Our oldest offspring is relocating to SE-USA from Butte.
He lived in Butte about 2yr.
Drop dead gorgeous scenery. No traffic.
10 min. from Mountain & Forest hiking and fishing.
Following is specific to Butte.
NO SWF . They all marry locals or move out.
His company has lost former male employees for that same reason. I suggested they only hire SWF to have a better draw for future male employees.
In addition is first freeze day is Sept 1. in Butte area.
This posting is 7/5 and our son got snow/ ice couple weeks ago...
As he is packing to go , he keeps telling himself (he will sorta miss Butte,) that winter is Sept to June...
He said lots of Californians moving into state and Helena real estate has gone up accordingly. Has also noticed it in Butte as well.
Tip, there are lots of hiking activities in the state to
bring together singles. Forgot the names but there are
hiking/activity internet sites to facilitate those interested.

Sheldon Cooper wishing to relocate after his apartment suffers a burglary arrives in Bozeman Montana.

Marquette is considerably colder and infinitely more snow than Billings
I have no truck with Billings but there are much better places in Montana to live scenery and people wise
A bit further west unless you own a large cattle spread or oil patch then the vast plains of eastern Montana will suffice
My brother lives in TC
Im UP familiar and my son snow cave camps on that high ridge west above Marquette when he can and it is extremely cold at
The Mt Arvon escarpment is bitter in January
The western slope of the glacier park like Cut Bank is the coldest part of Montana Im fairly certain....the western slope like Whitefish ...a lovely place...gets an inversion
I cried when we left. (But then I cried when we got there).
never have to rake leaves
Both but of course, I lean Cheyenne. No state income tax, property taxes are reasonable; yes windy too.
They will attempt to tax the cold. The cold will kill them off anyway.
I stayed over in Cheyenne on a road trip in 2014. I know what you mean about no leaves. The surrounding area is all grasslands.
