‘We’re thinking landslide’: Beyond D.C., GOP officials see Trump on glide path to reelection

By most conventional indicators, Donald Trump is in danger of becoming a one-term president. The economy is a wreck, the coronavirus persists, and his poll numbers have deteriorated.

But throughout the Republican Party’s vast organization in the states, the operational approach to Trump’s re-election campaign is hardening around a fundamentally different view.

Interviews with more than 50 state, district and county Republican Party chairs depict a version of the electoral landscape that is no worse for Trump than six months ago — and possibly even slightly better. According to this view, the coronavirus is on its way out and the economy is coming back. Polls are unreliable, Joe Biden is too frail to last, and the media still doesn’t get it.

“The more bad things happen in the country, it just solidifies support for Trump,” said Phillip Stephens, GOP chairman in Robeson County, N.C., one of several rural counties in that swing state that shifted from supporting Barack Obama in 2012 to Trump in 2016. “We’re calling him ‘Teflon Trump.’ Nothing’s going to stick, because if anything, it’s getting more exciting than it was in 2016.”

This year, Stephens said, “We’re thinking landslide.”

Five months before the election, many state and county Republican Party chairs predict a close election. Yet from the Eastern seaboard to the West Coast and the battlegrounds in between, there is an overriding belief that, just as Trump defied political gravity four years ago, there’s no reason he won’t do it again.

Andrew Hitt, the state party chairman in Wisconsin, said that during the height of public attention on the coronavirus, in late March and early April, internal polling suggested “some sagging off where we wanted to be.”

But now, he said, “Things are coming right back where we want them … That focus on the...

“The economy is a wreck” — which had nothing to do with him of course since it’s the lockdowns that caused it

Exactly. The communists manipulated the Governors (including red states) into these lockdowns to undermine Trump.

1. The polls are rigged. The McLaughlin Group demonstrated how last week.
2. COVID-19 is not the President’s fault and he has done all he can about it.
3. The economy is not a wreck, and it’s cause is something new. It has not been caused by mismanagement.

Voters know this.

This is making everyone complacent. There is data in the form of poll numbers that Trump is in trouble. I think people are arguing that people are rational. If they were, there wouldn’t be this SJW nonsense in the first place.

I really wouldn’t take it for granted that Trump is going to win. There are even so-called conservatives who hate him. Don’t underestimate the amount of crazy that the West has become.

Bump.

With the latest USSC Decision it is all irrelevant. The majority on the Court is Leftist including now Roberts and budding Gorsuch. You cannot give men total power, even in a group, and expect decisions favoring freedom and reason.

Technically, IIRC, Obama served as an Illinois senator for about a minute. The fix was in baby!

White women are the key. A sizable number of them have turned against President Trump.

If he can win them back before November, and that is very possible, he wins reelection.

If not, then the country is irrevocably lost forever.

Rush Limbaugh said it best... Polls are not designed to reflect voter opinion, but rather to shape it.

When polls come out that start showing DJT with a lead, then I’d be concerned.

The GOP better get it's act together. The coup, impeachment, ChiCom Flu hoax and lockdown, BLM/Antifa revolt, calls for reparations, cities and businesses destroyed, statues torn down, infanticide, green new deal, anti-fracking, dickless transgenders in our faces, pro sports ruined, assaults on 2a,1620 project, rewriting history, overpriced progressive education indoctrinating our youth, and the 24 hour a day assault in American values are just a few of the reasons there should be a Republican landslide in every local, state and federal election. Add all these things up along with that fact Joe Biden is a complete deep state idiot and the GOP could destroy the Democratic Party and truly Make America Great Again.

The GOP needs to present a clear vision of the positive changes that will be made and contrast that vision with what the Rats want. By contrast, I mean run so negative that the Rats don't know what hit them.

For instant, the monent Biden officially receives the nomination at the Rat convention, the GOP needs to run internet, print, radio and TV ads that accuse Biden of being a rapist and pedophile. There's tons of video of Biden being touchy feely with children. Don't do it in a funny way. Make it hurt. Be relentless and ruin him.

This type of approach needs to be taken with every Rat running for office. Destroy their character, destroy their policies and be down right nasty about. But you know what, the GOP will squander this opportunity because they are a bunch of lazy ass, deep state pussies that enjoy losing because that is their station in life.

"Should" is the right word. It will be close because the Republican brand sucks so much. The Globalist Cheap Labor anti worker party ( GOP ) will always struggle until they align themselves with workers and main street..

There was never any chance that the Democrats were going to beat Trump this fall... and they know it... which is why the candidates they had running were beyond a joke.. and why Biden is the nominee...

He can’t win, he knows he can’t win, but he’s a loyal party guy so he’ll do what’s asked of him as a last hurrah before he disappeared, just like Dole did for the GOP in 16.

Trump will not lose a single state he got in 16, and he’ll win a few more, pretty much if he lost it by 5 or less expect him to win it.. and he’ll be so comfortable that the battle will be in states he lost with between 5 and 10, and will likely take a few of those as well.

The deep blue states will stay deep blue, but every state that isn’t the deepest of blue, Trump will likely carry handily.

And Trump will do something every President that has won a second term has done with the exception of Obama... and that’s win his second term with more votes and a greater percentage of the vote than he won his first term by.

“Is Obama the only senator who won the Presidency?”

He's the first one to ever win, having zero qualifications that would have gotten a white guy laughed off the national stage. But he was clean and articulate, so he had that.

I believe you are right but with a caveat. For as long as I have been alive women have voted for one priority above all others. This has proven true in poll after poll and election after election. The single biggest priority of both married and single women is security. Their financial security and the physical security of themselves and their families.

I can’t speak for women, but I believe they can’t feel good about what they are seeing on their TV sets, on the internet and in newspapers. The civil unrest, destruction, murder and wholesale anarchy they’re witnessing is certain to have an effect on their psyche and their voting decisions.

I believe what you’re seeing from the left is not only an effort to pander to the worst elements of human nature, but to emotionally blackmail those that might even think about voting for Donald Trump into changing their minds lest the entire nation be consumed by their rage. There are so many dynamics to this equation that it is hard to figure out on which side women, and the black community at-large, will fall.

It’s hard for me not to believe there is a huge slice of the black electorate that knows the criminal element within their communities and is shaking in there boots that it will be unleashed upon them by the pandering politicians in the Democratic Party. There are many that also must be disgusted that the behavior of the criminal class and entitled youth are cementing stereotypes and resentment toward the black community that are not helpful to their plight in the least.

The looting and destruction of supermarkets, drug stores and local businesses has exacerbated problems that already exist within the community that have created so-called “food deserts” and other shortages of businesses and services that are no longer willing or can no longer afford to operate in majority-black districts within the major liberal cities. If anyone thinks that the average black person in these areas doesn’t understand that the black community is its own worst enemy, then you aren’t giving black Americans the credit they deserve for thinking for themselves. While they may say one thing to keep from being targets within their own communities, I assure you they’re voting with the full understanding of what is actually happening to them and who is responsible.

In regards to women at large, what is happening in Seattle and other major cities as well as the anti-police rhetoric of the Democratic Party cannot be comforting, especially to single women living with their children in major metropolitan areas. They understand quite well that they will soon become targets of the criminal class when there is no longer a police presence to protect them. As far as white suburban women are concerned, the majority must be concerned that the unrest will spread to their communities and are going to vote in a manner they believe will best prevent that from happening. What choice that is, I’m not sure, but I can’t help but believe the rhetoric of the Democrats has to be concerning to suburban women also and is not helpful to their cause.
