A bar owner in Elgin, Texas, has decided that wearing a mask inside his bar should be prohibited, but his reasoning is pretty solid.
According to KXAN, co-founder of the Liberty Tree Tavern, Kevin Smith, has told customers that if they believe they need to be wearing a mask then they don’t need to be at a bar, they need to be staying home.
“Due to our concern for our citizens, if they feel the need to wear a mask, then they should probably stay home until it’s safe,” reads the sign on the front.
Smith told KXAN that he’s still observing certain safety guidelines, but admits he’s acting out against self-important people who take it upon themselves to go overboard with their own fear and police others. His customers seem to agree:
“It is more of a push back — the snitches, and the contact tracers out there,” said Kevin Smith, Co-Owner of the Liberty Tree Tavern. “This is still a rural county.”
Kevin Smith says he’s still following social distancing guidelines as set in place by the Center for Disease Control.
Since the Liberty Tree Tavern shut down, Charles Chamberlain has been eagerly waiting for it to open back up. He says he’s not fazed by the tavern’s posting.
“I’m a stage 4 cancer survivor. It’s just a choice. He just put that up their to let people know if they aren’t feeling good, then they maybe shouldn’t come,” said Charles Chamberlain. “Everybody is keeping safe distances, they aren’t bunching up.”
I can’t disagree with Smith’s reasoning. Many people are ready and raring to go out and enjoy themselves. The fear of the virus seems to be on a fast decline. If someone is absolutely worried about the virus still, then they should hide away and leave everyone else alone.
Even Elgin residents seem to agree according to KXAN:
“I don’t know anyone personally, and I know a lot of people, that’s gotten the virus or has died,” said Sherrill Schier, owner of ETX Travel in Elgin.
Sherrill Schier is not a mask wearer, but does have them on-hand for her customers.
“People are just comfortable. We are a small town, we don’t have a lot of crowds. We are okay,” said Schier.
In March Dr Fauci recommended NOT wearing one saying it provides a false sense of security,
then in May changed it to wear one to protect others,
now he says wearing it is a 'symbol' and shows 'respect'.

I don’t see the slightest amount of “logic” in this.
People have been told to wear masks to protect themselves against an airborne virus. Consequently, wearing one doesn’t imply that you’re sick, so telling you to “stay at home” if you feel sick is pointless.

And remember to listen to the scientists, like the CDC; which recently said surfaces could carry the virus, after previously saying surfaces could not carry the virus, countering their own initial claim surfaces *could* carry the virus. it’s complicated.

No, most masks are useless against the virus. Even medical workers in full protective gear have contracted it.
The reasoning behind people in general wearing it is given as it’s supposed to prevent the wearer from giving it (not getting it). So, the reasoning of the owner fits just fine.
Freedom is submission?
And if you have to remove your mask to drink anyway, then what the hell is the point of wearing it in the first place?
Logic and politics do not mix.

CDC recommends that people wear a cloth face covering to cover their nose and mouth in the community setting. This is to protect people around you if you are infected but do not have symptoms.

I believe you are completely misinformed on the mask. There are very few masks out there that can protect anybody from an airborne virus, and the few that are have been sent to only health professionals.
These surgical masks and homemade masks are not effective against the teeny tiny little virus like CoVid 19 or any other Coronavirus or rhinovirus.
Someone posted a picture recently of a chan link fence, and explained that wearing these masks is like trying to keep mosquitoes getting through chain link fence. It’s impossible.
The “experts” tell us that wearing masks is to protect others from getting our germs, not the other way around. So if you feel a need to wear a mask, then it’s an indication that you think you might be sick, or a silent carrier.
And he doesnt have to bake your fag cake either!!

Nailed it! Of course, the fearbros will tell you that you have no “right” to “spread your contagions”... Which assumes you are a plague-carrying danger to everyone else, and so you can (and should be) forced to wear a mask. The simple logic you expressed is completely foreign to them. It’s like trying to explain stock options to a 10-year old.
I have serious doubts this person ever had stage 4 cancer. Anyone who went through stage 4 cancer with their immune system wiped out and protected by masking outside germs is not going to demand his customers to risk their own health.
In my county, 4% of those tested with symptoms are positive. So if non-symptomatic people are only a small fraction of carriers, then 99.8% of the people are not sick and unless I stand on top of that .2% of the population I'd say my risk is fairly low.
This is dumb.
Wear a mask.
