Vice President Mike Pence said Thursday he is inclined more than ever to believe retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn did not intentionally mislead him about his conversations with a Russian envoy, which was a reason cited by President Trump for asking him to resign as national security adviser in early 2017.
He made the comments after the FBI records released on Thursday have been touted by Flynn's lawyer, Sidney Powell, as exculpatory evidence heretofore concealed from the defense team. They show that now-fired FBI agent Peter Strzok and others in the FBIs leadership stopped the bureau from closing its investigation into Flynn in early January 2017 after investigators had uncovered no derogatory information on him. Emails from later that month show Strzok, along with then-FBI lawyer Lisa Page and several others, sought out ways to continue investigating Flynn.
I think Gen. Michael Flynn is a patriotic American who served with great distinction (blah blah blah). And Im deeply troubled by the revelations (blah blah blah) and we are going to continue to look into that very carefully. But my respect for Gen. Flynn personally, for his service to the country, is undiminished, Pence told reporters. And Im inclined more than ever to believe that what he communicated to me back during the transition leading to our inauguration was unintentional and that he was not attempting to misrepresent facts."

The vice presidents comments about Flynn on Thursday stand in contrast to those he made in December 2017, when CBSs Margaret Brennan asked: When he was fired, did you know he had lied to the FBI?
Pence answered: What I can tell you is I knew he lied to me. And I know the president made the right decision with regard to him.

“That ‘lying to VP Pence’ if not THE reason that Trump lost faith in Gen. Flynn, it definitely was a major one.”
It’s also been reported that Obama “tipped off” Trump to watch out for Flynn — that Flynn can’t be trusted. Of course, that was concurrent with the time he and his treason troop were meeting in the Oval Office to coordinate the coup. Trump was being set up by everyone, it seems
Also, they thought the whole election was a slam dunk and life would go on undisturbed.
recall, Zero left a bunch of judge ships unfilled, this was to give Mrs Bill Clinton the opportunity to continue the stacking.
Coats didn’t fall asleep. He worked hard against Trump.
And Pence ... don’t trust him,
Amen replace wray with flynn.
When you see who has a lot to gain by an early removal of the president well guess who is on the very very short list
I wondered if the “Flynn lied” narrative would stand up. Both PT and Pence trusted the intelligence community. Shame on them if they ever make that mistake again.
You think? What a dunce this weak career politician had turned out to be.
Pence has been relatively quiet and in the background for most of this first term, but that sort of goes with the job of VP. Lay low, and don’t cause any problems for the Top Dog.
I like Pence just fine, but let’s face it...He’s no Donald Trump.
[I honestly believe Flynn was fired for other reasons]
Mike Pence is there because ultimately he will be guided by military members of the highest patriotism.
But his style is one we’ve seen too often which is to “go along to get along”. It’s SOP for the political class.
Pence is likable and will show a spine when it is clear who the real bad guys are.
Bot POTUS and Pence tend to give the benefit of the doubt to everyone and then we see real bad guys come into focus and we wonder why they were ever there.
POTUS responds by firing them if they are a threat to the Presidency or to the American people. If firing them causes skirmishes to break out by the Left, then POTUS leaves them in place while having them monitored and used to feed disinformation leaks without knowing their leaks are disinformation. This is why the Left is always screeching that POTUS is a liar. He is, to them. But so was General George Washington.
Pence responds by discovering he was duped and then measures the impact to his reputation and that of his office. If the impact is large, he will fire those responsible.
Pence was duped early on about Flynn lying, Pence was trusting the Obama FBI. Pence realized he was lied to and is now onboard with restoring the reputation of General Flynn.
As long as people correct themselves, I have no problem with that.
New positions, new people, new circumstances require new learning. There will be liars and truth tellers, there will be schemers and straight shooters.
I wish the world was a perfect place.
POTUS has also made mistakes but he quickly corrects himself usually within 24 hours.
Pence can take a long time to realize he made an error and he will correct himself over days and weeks and not hours.
If anything can be said to criticize Pence, it would be he’s slow.
But other than that he’s a God fearing man, a great example to show calm and measured deliberation.
He just needs to speed up his intel flow and decision making. Let’s hope he has staff that are up to the job for him on that.
It’s all getting sorted out... Flynn needs to be the one who cleans out ‘intelligence’ when the time is right.
“Pence is now cuhoa (cover up his own @ss), either he is too naive, or he doesn’t want to admit he’s been used.”
I hope Pence and Trump didn’t fire Flynn based on what the FBI told them! Incidentally, just exactly what was the lie? I want details damnit!
That’s the point. There was no lie. He had no reason to lie, and he didn’t. As a long-time spook, he knows his conversations with Russians are monitored.
On the other hand, he ought never to have talked to FBI. He should have said, I’m the president’s advisor. My conversations are classified. If you want to know what I said, ask him.
Agree completely. He sets off my weird vibe. So did Coats, who I bet is raking in the lobbyist dough with both hands.
Pence = CYA
“Pence has been relatively quiet and in the background for most of this first term, but that sort of goes with the job of VP.”
Pence is the George H.W. Bush to Ronald Reagan. The insider player waiting for the opportunity to take center stage from the outsider.
Trump should consider replacing Pence with Kristi Noem, governor of South Dakota. She appears to be a tough fighter would add diversity to the ticket.
White female moderate women are the swing vote demographic in presidential elections. They went for Obama in 2008 and 2012. Enough came back to the GOP ticket in 2012, which along with a weak minority turnout, shifted the electoral college to Trump. Many moderate women do not like Trump and it is clear if Biden does get the nomination, the female he has promised to choose as his VP will be president. Trump replacing Pence with a woman will help to shore up the female vote.
The Reagan revolution ended with George H.W. Bush, not Bill Clinton. Bush force the Reagan conservatives out of the White House, replacing them with country club Republicans. He pushed globalism - NAFTA and WTO which led to the gutting of American industry. He was pro China. Plus he caved to the Democrats on taxes and appointed David Souter to the Supreme Court. He was not a strong leader, preferring compromise to fight.
Pence is a member of the insider club, doing his duty and waiting for the incumbent to leave. If he succeeds Trump as president the Dems in Congress will roll over him and he will be a one term POTUS.
“Trump should consider replacing Pence with Kristi Noem, governor of South Dakota. She appears to be a tough fighter would add diversity to the ticket.”
I don’t know a lot about her, but from what I’ve learned during the plandemic, and how she handled things, I think that’s a really good idea. Imagine having someone who thinks logically, and is on the same page as POTUS.
To all who said Obama warned Trump about Flynn,
That didn’t hold up. Obama warned Trump about hiring Gen Flynn when they met “less than 48 hours after the November election” according to NBC News. Yet Trump still named Flynn as his national security adviser. That showed how much Trump trusted the advice from his predecessor.
Not until (well as the official story goes) “On February 13, 2017, Trump fired Michael Flynn from the post of National Security Adviser on grounds that he had lied to Vice President Pence about his communications with the Russian Ambassador to the United States, Sergey Kislyak.” (wiki page, yes, I know).
So, we know both Trump and Pence were being played. At the time of Gen. Flynn’s firing, I said it was a big mistake. But I didn’t know the extent of the Obama rot.
Is the best defense Pence can say about Flynn?
I trust Flynn more than Pence.
