Cuomo Calls New State Budget "Robust," Progressives Call It "Republican Austerity Warfare"

New York was facing a $6 billion budget deficit even before the COVID-19 pandemic swept in to deliver a potential $10 billion blow to the state’s coffers. But Governor Andrew Cuomo told reporters on Tuesday he was proud that he and the state’s lawmakers were still able to craft a “robust budget,” despite the circumstances.

“This is a particularly difficult budget because there is no money and there is much fear and there is much stress,” Cuomo said. “When we did the state of the state, we had a lot of policy ideas, a lot of reforms for this state that would help many, many New Yokers and make this state once again the progessive leader. On the environment, social justice, economic justice, racial justice—and all of those items are still in this budget,” the governor said. “So it’s not that we said, ‘Well, because we’re busy, we’re gonna scale back.”

Republicans have NO power in NY State. They held on to the State Senate by a slim margin a decade ago, so they could prevent the absolute worst leftist corruption - but that has been swept away. Leftist Democrats literally control everything. NY is a one-party, ideologue, SJW state, run by top party apparatchiks skimming from Wall Street.

The silver lining of Coronavirus is that, with luck, it will bankrupt this progressive place and force some real change.

New York State was facing a $6 billion budget shortfall WITHOUT the CCP Virus. That’s all been swept under the rug as the CCP Virus has thoroughly dominated all news coverage.

The $10 billion dollar reduction in the budget includes a chronic pre-existing condition....they were already $6 billion short.

JOSEPH SPECTOR | November 27, 2019

ALBANY - New York faces budget deficits between $6 billion and $8 billion over the next three years amid ballooning costs for Medicaid.

Budget documents released Friday afternoon showed the state faces its worst fiscal problems since the recession in 2010, when a $10 billion budget gap needed to be closed.

The state Legislature and Gov. Andrew Cuomo will need to come up with a balanced budget for the next fiscal year that starts April 1.

A $6 billion budget gap for the 2020-21 fiscal year could mean deep cuts in programs and services.
