Probably not. Bernie was screwed because of the Super-Delegates last time. I predict the same will happen again.
This looks like the McGovern nomination in 1972.
The party leaders just lost control in 1972 and had to take their beating—in the real world it happens—rarely—but it happens.
If Bernie takes Warren on as VP before the convention, they won’t be able to stop him...he will have too many delegates on the floor.
Good point.
I don’t think they have any choice.
The Berniebots are fiercely loyal to him and will not tolerate another 2016. If the DNC screws Bernie this time, they could tear the party apart.
I could also see the higher ups in the DNC allowing it to happen because they know that whoever they run will get annihilated in November. Better Bernie than one of their rising stars.
That would solve their Bernie problem for good.
Bernie! Bernie! Bernie! Bernie!
The ironic part is they did it to themselves. Trump suckered them into destroying themselves with their own hate...and they all claim to be Star Wars fans. That is how stupid they are.
If they *want* to lose, yes.
The party *leadership* knows full well that they are going to lose, no matter what happens. The issues now are saving face by losing by as little as possible and damaging President Trump.
Good luck with that.
There is not a single Black Swan, at this stage, that can change the outcome.
But who can the DNC install? Who would be willing to play the Mondale role, and take one for the team (a DNC installed candidate would have nowhere near the turnout necessary to defeat the turnout machine in the White House)? Would Hillary take on that role? Biden? Mondale was a man of integrity (at least from what I remember). But none of the current crop of high-visibility Democrats have even an ounce of integrity.
And who would the DNC *want* to be the face of the party. A homosexual despised by African Americans? A doddering old fool? A bitter 2 time loser? An angry, strident fake Indian? A nasty little woman from Minnesota? Maybe a billionaire (or two)?
The bottom line is that the DNC really doesn’t have a candidate who would be both willing to take one for the team, and who represents a much better face of the party than the current leader, who is really just an angry, viscous old man yelling at clouds.
The Democrats have painted themselves into a corner, and simply don’t have any good options left.
Is this McGovern or Dukakis redux?
The ironic part is they did it to themselves. Trump suckered them into destroying themselves with their own hate
They created his voting block
This fix is in. If Burnie gets the most delegates he gets the nom. No brokered convention.
Most likely scenario is the Dems rallying around Burnie after he piles up the delegates in March. Democrats are team players unlike establishment Republicans who prefer progressive Democrats to POTUS and the MAGA agenda.
The Dem primary race very well could be over in April. The brokered convention scenarios will be a distant memory in November.
:: But who can the DNC install? ::
The answer is easy.
The DNC is broke.
Who is campaigning on their own money?
Which of the candidates can pay-off the Clinton Foundation loan from 2016 if he gets the nom?
Who is the they in "their" you speak of. And why is in the power of "they" to give anyone anything. "They" are the folks who gave us impeachment, etc. "they" shouldn't be controlling anything. "They" have been the ruin of the US.
I think Bernie is a true threat. Not a joke at all. Decades of indoctrinated younger generations will flock to vote for a true commie. What the hell do they know? Theyve been taught that this crap is awesome and tha5 capitalism is the blame for all their woes.
This combined with unfettered voter fraud, illegal aliens voting and worse could put berntard in the White House.
Think the anti Trumpers wouldnt work to make this happen? Pfff...
We are not dealing with a brain trust here. The democrat party was Bernie before Bernie ever had a chance.
The 2020 election for the presidency is a lost cause for the Dems. While some, like Carville, realize this salient truth, many Dems are so delusional they honestly believe Trump can, because he must, be dethroned.
In their delusion these same democrats see Sanders as the wave of their future. These mad and angry dems will support him with greater glee than they supported Hillary.
Trump will put on a full court press against socialism. I believe it will be epoch. Trump will not simply coast to victory. He will demolish leftist politics permanently.
Coronavirus and/or economic downturn. The virus is the very definition of a “Black Swan” event.
Doomberg.
