During a trip to Arizona and New Mexico, I filmed the construction of new border wall being built east of Douglas, Arizona. An extremely impressive undertaking.

This video hopes to remind viewers how incredibly innovative & productive our construction industry is. It reminded me of the Alaska Pipeline Project, in which I personally managed a small portion of. After the politics settle, our relationship with Mexico will dramatically improve, the environment will be just fine (as was the environment in Alaska post project), the word "illegal" immigrant will be gone, and in its place increased & rejuvenating legal immigration:

Great video. Well done and very informative. Happy the barrier is being built. Hope it is well monitored and has lots of sensors on it and a rapid response force backing that up.

I don’t think the foundations are deep enough to provide very much resistance to over turning by either a large truck with a long cable or construction equipment. It certainly is not a trivial barrier but the footings just don’t look deep enough.

At least it may be easier to protect the border barrier than it is to protect the border.

I hope so, because illegal alien is the correct term.

******

I’m more toward calling them invaders.

They’re also going to paint the bollards black when all is done. That way they’ll be too hot to touch with sun shining on them. Ha.

“Anyone know how deep the concrete foundation goes on this fence?”

Generally, 6 feet deep is the minimum spec for the 18 foot bollards, in soil. It can vary based on approved local designs, to accommodate slope, bedrock, soil composition and hydrology.

The technology for detecting tunnels (and the act of tunneling) is kept kind of under wraps and out of sight, but vibration sensors protect the foundation and some distance below it, while periodic ground penetrating radar scans can detect tunnels deeper still.

The neighborhood kids and Jose Six Pack are basically deterred by a six foot foundation. The see through design of the bollards also means that tunnels have to start far back from the bollards, and come up far from them, to escape visual detection while digging, making it an expensive, lengthy (and dangerous) team effort.

Kids used to be able to scrape enough sand away to belly under in just a few minutes. Just the massive reinforced concrete foundation alone, defeats casual tunneling attacks, that might more easily escape detection.

Over, under and through are the three ways of defeating the barrier - each is comprehensively analyzed and addressed in the design of the total package of “Wall System” designed for each segment of the border.

Significantly, Wall System is under persistent surveillance as part of its fundamental design. Monitoring software (AI) will train over time to become better and better at detecting activity.

Neat video but don’t want a path to citizenship to any illegal. Do it right the first time and no second chance, imo.

Have to admit watching the outskirts for someone sneaking in and waving at the workmen.

“the foundations are deep enough to provide very much resistance to over turning by either a large truck with a long cable or construction equipment.”

Bollards are the preferred design for defeating vehicle ramming attacks. The steel bollards themselves are reinforced with two pieces of 1” steel rebar, and filled with high strength concrete.

The foundations are long (unitary) steel reinforced, cast in place concrete structures, about six feet by two feet thick, set in the ground. So it takes a lot of force to uproot such a large and massive buried rock. The thirty foot bollards often have local designs that incorporate deeper and/or wider foundations.

Alternatively, you would need enough force to break a piece free from the rest of the foundation.

I am sure that any structure could be deliberately demolished, but the main requirements for the bollards are to withstand threats like vehicle ramming, wind, flood and breaching attempts with hand and battery operated tools.

Vehicle ramming is a particular threat that bollard barriers had to be designed against - even large trucks with suicide drivers.

Foundations vary from place to place to place. Generally 6 feet deep and two feet thick (steel reinforced) in soil is about the least you'll find, for the shorter (18 foot) bollards.

the thirty foot bollards in the secondary barrier in San Diego had foundations that were observed being poured six feet THICK, and down to meet up with the bedrock.

WOW, amazing work, using American products and zero illegal immigrants on the crews.

Any illegals become part of the footers.

Where is the apology from that skinny, long necked, bill maher, lewinsky giver?

I threw out all of the books I bought from her, and vowed to never spend another dime with her, not even for a coulterinsky.

I saw that too and disagree, but I would rather have more people on our side for getting the wall built, and this guy is enthusiastic for that.

Like I said to another poster, when your ship is sinking due to flooding, you have to stop the flooding. When your patient is bleeding (they are bleeding into us) you have to stop the bleeding. You can fix the battle damage and the broken bones later.

Another question-are the individual sections welded together at the top? Should they be?
