At Douglas MacArthur's waterhole in Morotai, Indonesia

During World War Two, Douglas MacArthur built his young wife a bathroom at Air Kaca in Morotai.

The local land owner bestowed a huge honour on me when he asked me to create a memorial there.

In response we put up an art display there and planted memorial trees over five years.

When I tried to share these efforts and seek replication at important military heritage land in my own neighbourhood of Maribyrnong in Australia, I was accused of harassment, arrested by the police and dragged through psychological hell in a family violence court.

When will the madness of modern feminist misandry stop attacking decent men and ruining their lives?

A lot of people never forgave him for what he did to Wainwright or the way he insulted Fertig. Tactically MacArthur was often brilliant. As a person he could be unbelievably petty.

And when that translates to interfering with other people getting the recognition they deserved it is kind of hard to over look.

He refused to put some Marines up for awards they really deserved because, "The Marines have enough metals."

Sure bud. Whatever.

At least you could cite an article in the New York Times supporting your leftist belief.

Career enlisted Army guys tend not to write articles for the NYTs.

But you just go right ahead and believe what ever you want to believe.

If you dream tonight about a bald guy with an Alabama accent and wearing Sargent stripes kicking your butt that would be my FIL visiting from the great beyond.

He was a WWII vet and what he said about MacArthur is not allowed on FR.

But that or some similar publication seems to be where you get your information about MacArthur.

If you dream tonight about a bald guy with an Alabama accent and wearing Sargent stripes kicking your butt that would be my FIL visiting from the great beyond. He was a WWII vet and what he said about MacArthur is not allowed on FR.

I appreciate his service but he was misinformed. If a fraction of the stories we now hear of MacArthur's incompetence were true, there would have at least been been hints of it in the memoirs of his direct reports; Wainwright, Rogers, Sutherland, Kenney, Brerenton, . Instead, all we read is glowing praise.

No, I did not get it from newspapers. I got it from the guys that were there, serving in the Pacific.

MacArthur's incompetence were true,

I never said he was incompetent. Neither did they. An egotistical jerk yes. But a good military commander and some times down right brilliant.

But being a brilliant commander does not make you a nice person. And Douglas MacArthur could be very petty and vindictive. And could be just as blinded by predigest as anyone else. If it came from him or his guys it was good. If it was the opinion or action of someone else it was rubbish.
