Was Abraham Lincoln a conservative?
Some people say right/left distinctions are no longer meaningful.
In my own life I was born into a progressive family and absorbed that way of thinking.
When I became older, I have learnt quite painfully how important and valuable maintaining western traditions is, when my own rights were trashed by modern misandry, leading me to create this blog: https://freedom-demokrasi-and-civilised-humanity.com/2017/11/08/freedom-demokrasi-and-civilised-humanity/
Where I write this it is already President Lincolns birthday. Who has ever been to Lincoln's birthplace Sinking Spring Farm in Kentucky? Did you learn anything about the man there which came to you from the place?
In modern terms was he the greatest ever progressive president (achiever of change) or was he more a great conservative by saving the union?
Again it is a moot point. Virginia was defeated. That’s what happens when you lose a war.
It will always be the central point of the issue. The reason why those taking your side of the “debate” (as you term it) can never possibly hope to prevail in any way.
Trying to label being anti-slavery as “virtue signaling” (a modern invention which is signaling by anti-freedom/anti-God leftists to other anti-freedom/anti-God leftists over things that aren’t virtuous whatsoever) is the height of disingenuousness. Your own righteous indignations about “rights” and the like rings hollow when you continue to defend the “right” of these states to slavery, or reduce millions of enslaved persons to a mere asterisk (or annoyance when someone dares bring it up !).
Unless you're a slave.
"This was not written for chiefs. Hear me! Hear this! Among my people, we carry many such words as this from many lands, many worlds. Many are equally good and are as well respected, but wherever we have gone, no words have said this thing of importance in quite this way. Look at these three words written larger than the rest, with a special pride never written before or since. Tall words proudly saying We the People. That which you call Ee'd Plebnista was not written for the chiefs or the kings or the warriors or the rich and powerful, but for all the people! Down the centuries, you have slurred the meaning of the words, 'We, the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this constitution.' These words and the words that follow were not written only for the Yangs, but for the Kohms as well! They must apply to everyone or they mean nothing! Do you understand?" -- James T. Kirk, "The Omega Glory"
To be honest, I'm a little murky on the creation of the State of Kanawha.
On what date did Virginia vote to approve West Virginia becoming a separate state?
A very, very clever response .... thank you ..... God Bless America and God Bless Freedom of Speech
....... and even more importanlty God Bless Your Potus in this election year in America ........
the Democrats are Crap!
“Ohhhh..Coservative...I read
Did Abraham Lincoln The Coronavirus?”
Clearly typos (typing errors) are reaching pandemic level. Should the United Nations intervene to save The Free Republic from this deadly disease?
Let's be clear: the original slave states were New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maryland, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Massachusetts.
Also, Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Georgia were slave states. Don't ever forget to cast four-thirteenths responsibility in that direction.
See post #942
By 1860 New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maryland, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts had outlawed slavery
I did and it has conflicting information about the Virginia legislature's supposed approval of western Virginia counties forming another slave state to be admitted into the Union.
Previously implied, I now state it for emphasis: you need to stay as far away from this discussion as possible because your earlier remarks were getting you in way over your head.
Just continue to refer people to the internet and say “it is all in there.”
“By 1860 New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maryland, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts had outlawed slavery”
And by 1861 most, if not all, of these states were scheming in Congress to pass the Corwin amendment to ensure slavery would remain enshrined in the United States Constitution forever.
Full circle.
Because the slave holding states had lost their power in the Congress.
The Democrats were scheming in Congress to pass the Corwin amendment to ensure slavery would remain enshrined in the United States Constitution forever.
“The Democrats were scheming in Congress to pass the Corwin amendment to ensure slavery would remain enshrined in the United States Constitution forever.”
The sponsors of the Corwin Amendment - Representative Thomas Corwin and Senator William H. Seward - were both Republicans.
Why do you post the things that you do?
So What! The operative words are “liberates the enemy’s slaves” That means the liberates slaves will not be growing food for the Confederate Army. The liberates slaves will no longer be producing salt for the Confederate army. The liberated slaves will no longer be working in the mills, factories, and foundries to produce weapons of war for the Confederate army. The liberated slaves will no longer dig the trenches and fortifications for the Confederate army. Sound like the plan was working as Mr. Lincoln had envisioned.
It worked.
Virginia was part of the Confederacy. the Confederacy declared war against the United States.
Moot point. The State of West Virginia exists. The Confederate State of Virginia does not exist.
It must have been something about the territories which would make them different from the Southern states,
That was how one made sure that there would be no more “Southern States”
