The crash of a Ukrainian jetliner that killed 176 people in Iran touched off mourning Wednesday in both Ukraine and Canada — where many of the victims were from or were headed — and raised a host of questions about what went wrong. But U.S. intelligence officials said there was no immediate evidence it was shot down.
This morning Iran refused to turn over the black box from the downed plane.
Iran will not give the black box of the crashed Ukrainian airliner to planemaker Boeing, the head of Tehran’s civil aviation organization was quoted as saying on Wednesday.
Ali Abedzadeh also said it was not clear which country Iran would send the box to so that its data could be analyzed, semi-official Mehr news agency reported.
Now new evidence surfaced.
A local Iranian reportedly discovered a “control segment” of a TOR M1 missile near the Ukrainian plane crash site.
Almost entirely Iranians on the flight. A lot of dual nationals.

No. the mid/rear blows up when the missile reaches a certain point of proximity. Not like a dumb bomb with a nose detonator.

80-20 it’s a misguided missile attack on either a falsely identified target or a plane that happened to get into a flight path for a missile going after a higher target.
The other possibility is an onboard bomb that exploded and disabled flight control. The final explosion may have been from contact with high voltage lines or due to in-flight breakup.
1 in 10,000 chances that it’s any kind of individual target from either deep state or Iranian files, I think this is more likely to be a mistake or a terrorist act, but either of those could be used in that unlikely scenario anyway (what other ways would they have to bring down the plane, other than terrorism or missile strike? possibly deliberate faulty maintenance).
I don’t think the “engine failure” thing will hold up, it is being met with skepticism from less political people on the pilot’s forum Pprune.

No, the Iranian government is not admitting it. The picture of the “expended” 9M331 missile control component was taken by an Iranian citizen (most of whom despise the regime) and posted on the internet to help get the truth out.
9M330T looks like the Russian industrial designator.

9M330 is the designator for an SA-15 Tor missile system. Mobile air defense missile system, successor to the older SA-8 system.
Looks to be possibly from a fragmentation blast warhead which is not a point detonated warhead where the whole fron of the missile would be blown to pieces.
Trigger happy Iranian military. But they want to blame President Trump.
A missile exploding will cause many, many technical faults. Also, this could be why Iran is suddenly backing off. Unless they did it on purpose. Just before this, they brought up the Iranian airliner that we accidentally blew up in 1988.
Anti aircraft ordance, since wwII have blown up throwing shrapnel to mechanicaly disable the targeted aircraft. Flak was explosive shells. Missles just adds refinery to the process. It’ll take a lot of money to get Boeing to eat the responsibility for this crash. Machine gun or shrapnel, hit the right spot and viola.
