excellent speech, inconsequential.

He declared no action.

He should have announced the start date for the trail and told the wannabe president, she has 12 days to provide the names of the house managers.

this truly was a speech for the ages, but it also hints at the direction the Senate is likely to take with the Trump impeachment ... it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if the Senate simply votes to dismiss the impeachment charges without a trial on the basis that no actual crimes were elucidated in the impeachment charges ...

I watched the speech this morning and really thought he was going to say it wasn’t even going to be discussed. Just throw it in the trash and move on.

"They're constitutionally incoherent".

What else can you expect from Democrats?

I heard the speech this morning. It is a great speech. Since Pelosi basically told him to pound salt, would love to know the next step in the Senate. Let’s get this done.

He all but said that. He trashed the articles and the process that produced them so thoroughly, that it's hard to imagine he will give them any consideration. He went on to pretty much set a standard for future impeachments, contrasting Pelosi and Schiff's partisan kangaroo court with the historical efforts to impeach Johnson, Nixon and Clinton taking years, special prosecutors, court challenges, defense council, solid evidence of a crime, etc.

Wow! Brilliant speech.

And for the usual naysayers here, he obviously plans to carry through with action.

McConnell’s speech was one of the nicest middle-fingers I have ever seen a politician give to the opposition. Well done, sir. I hope you are successful in protecting this president.

The strategy should be to replay the Clinton Impeachment over and over again as a talking point.During the actual time of the trial there was barely a peep from the Lamestream press about it. The Senate voted unanimously on the rules which means Chuck Schumer himself was part of that vote. Start by having an official vote to reuse those rules.

Get a writ of Mandamus forcing the passing of Articles from the Supreme Court , have Judge Roberts sit in at the start then vote to dismiss on the grounds no crime was committed in the articles sent.

I'll bet he doesn't want to tip his hand.

Better to keep the dems off balance and guessing what he's going to do than hand them something to use against him, something they can prepare for.

It probably wasn't the time of place for it.

He can play that cared later.

Like Trump said in one of his debates, you don't announce to the enemy what you're going to do to them so they can get ready for it.

As a side note to this thread, please consider the following.

Given that the earliest US political party (informal) was not founded until after the Constitution was ratified, there is unsurprisingly no express constitutional check against political party abuse of Congress’s power to impeach POTUS.

Anti-Administration party

Corrections, insights welcome.

When the states finally wake up and repeal the ill-conceived 17th Amendment, the repeal amendment should include a provision to prohibit political party support of federal elected offices.

The states will remain free to shoot both feet off with political parties.

Remember in November!

MAGA! Now KAGA! (Keep America Great Always!)
