Why Your Beautiful Lawn Is now a Racist and Ecological Crime
Return to Order ^ | August 2019 | Edwin Benson

Once again, a traditional symbol has become a target of those who attack private property rights and the American way of life. In this case, the symbol is the lawn – those closely-cropped grassy areas that surround most single-family homes. The basis for the attack is very typically environmentalism and racism.

The messenger is an article in The New York Times. Its title is unassuming enough – “The Great American Lawn: How the Dream was Manufactured.” The vehicle is an embedded seven-minute film, produced by David Botti.

The Attack

The film’s first minute summarizes the environmental concerns:

Later, Mr. Botti makes the link to racism. George Washington and Thomas Jefferson planted large lawns at their estates. These lawns were planted and maintained through the back-breaking labor of enslaved people.

The film furthers the racist narrative by asserting that mechanization made lawns available for the “privileged masses” about the year 1870 with manual lawnmowers. Then it fast-forwards to returning G.I.’s from World War II who settled in the suburbs with green lawns – unless they were black. The narrator condemns “a symbol of an American dream that is recognized by most, but only attainable to some.”

A Rebuttal

Such attacks are simplistic in their reasoning. Like all plants, grass absorbs carbon dioxide and emit oxygen. Thus, they can serve an environmental function.

Watered? Fertilized? What kind of crazy talk is that? Ours was fenced off of a cow pasture so it is endophyte-free tall fescue. Tough stuff. Keep it mowed and it looks OK. Burn it down, rut it up, it still comes back. Lawns and trees help keep the house naturally cool.

Lawnmowers pollute the air and cause climate change.

I want to see a study done by the Open Borders crowd in the Democrat Party and their cohorts in the media that tells us how much more carbon is released simply by ALLOWING millions of illegals into our country.

Think about it. Back in their own shithole countries they probably aren't contributing much of anything to the total carbon output that Lefties are so concerned about.

Ah, but allow them to enter the US and what happens? These illegal aliens now have access to cars, homes, jobs, carbon, carbon, CARBON!!!! GALORE!! So just how much more carbon are these people from their shithole countries now contributing to our atmosphere compared to if they had simply stayed home?

I’m glad I live in a nice Midwestern town. We don’t worry about our lawns being politically incorrect. We just keep em mowed and edged and nice and thick and green around here.

When they start in on golf courses, I’ll hit them with my cane.

I don’t need or have a cane but it seems like a useful, anti-liberal thing to carry around.

White is the new untouchable. Anything associated with white people is as immoral as they are, per the new liberal moral code.

There’s many areas of the country where water shortage isn’t an issue. More often then not where I live flooding is the issue.
We could build reservoirs and aqueducts like the Romans to supply others with the water they need.

My wife found one of those a couple weeks ago while helping her mom de-clutter her house. I wanted it but it was beyond restoration

Mine is too, but two rain storms in three months and plenty of Roundup and weeds and grass still poke through. How do you KILL this stuff so it stays killed?

Old episodes of Bat Masterson can give you clues to creative uses.

“A Rebuttal”

Is a rebuttal really needed for such obvious drivel??

By rebutting it you’re giving it a modicum of respectability. Pissing on it is the right response!
