That is largely because those games were invented here and we had nobody else to play with. At the Olympics, resurrected by the French, we play as team GB. There are plenty of Unionists who are in no doubt that they are British and base their national identity and sense of patriotism around that.

Best article I’ve read on Brexit, ever. I also didn’t know that Boris was American-born. Nicely done.

The first international cricket match was England versus Australia.

Correct. That would solve the stalemate. Boris may get into a deal with SNP that in return for support for Scottish independence, they will abstain from a vote on a new plan to out the customs border in the Irish sea. Kills two birds with one stome

Yes and cricket had been being played since before Australia even existed. George IIIs own father had been killed playing cricket back in 1751.

he hasn’t said anything about what he’d want to renegotiate. He can easily get a deal tomorrow if he applies the one country two systems principle and leaves NI in a customs union and the rUK out of the customs union

“ In the UK parliament is sovereign and it decides, not the people.”

Except the people elect the members of Parliament who they then, foolishly sometimes I’ll admit, expect them to follow through on their promises.

So there’s that.

the MPs were elected in 2015 for a wide variety of promises - many of whom didn’t promise for a Brexit vote and all of them didn’t promise a no-deal Brexit.

The 2016 advisory referendum was non-binding.

“The 2016 advisory referendum was non-binding.”

Boris Johnson sees things differently.

So there’s that.
