We always had Crisco on hand as well as Bisquick. Oh, and a used tin can full of bacon grease. My parents grew up during the depression.

Abso-freakin-lutely. Fry to a dark brown. Add a little more flour and some cream to the skillet for a gravy for mashed potatoes or white rice. I miss my Gram all these many years.
