Abolish the Senate and Electoral College? Why Not Tear Up the Constitution?
American Thinker ^ | December 12, 2018 | T.R. Clancy

Former Congressman John Dingell, Jr., a partisan Democrat whose immediate family has controlled the same seat in the House of Representatives for 86 years, has some suggestions for fixing Congress. We should abolish the Senate and the Electoral College because they're undemocratic, "despite the constitutional hurdles of doing so." In 2015, Dingell retired from the U.S. House seat he's held since 1955, the seat he inherited from his father, John Dingell, Sr., who first won it in 1932. The seat has passed to John Jr.'s much-younger wife, Rep. Debbie Dingell, who was just re-elected in November. (Full disclosure: For 20 years, my wife and I have lived in Dearborn, Michigan, which is inside the Dingell fiefdom and looks as though it may be in perpetuity.)

Who the hell are "they?" Own your statements. Don't use vaguely. You don't like the constitution because Trump won. You wanted Cankles. She lost. Get over it, lefty.

Period.

Own it.

Los Angeles County has about 10.5 million.

Oregon and Washington state combined have 11.7 million.

The caption is mistaken. I think they meant to say that LA County has a population equal to or greater than each one of the states marked in blue.

Not a problem, their move.

I don't want to spot them a "next move".

If only Ted had drowned that fateful night.

I believe Ted Kennedy was behind the massive 3rd world influx and slashing back of Europeans allowed to enter each year.

I could be wrong.

they’ve pretty much already torn up the Constitution

so many of its provisions have been altered and most of its provisions limited the federal government or guaranteeing liberties to citizens have been so watered down as to almost be abrogated, imho

If course they are undemocratic. This is a Republic.

Repeal the 16th and 17th amendments and the republic will be back.

If you look at the map, it is clear that America is overwhelmingly conservative. People from the heartland vote differently than places full of illegals, welfare slugs and non-Christians. The Electoral College makes sure the REAL Americans continue to hold enough power to keep us from becoming a third-world country.

The best idea I have heard is to give every US county one vote for president. That vote would be cast in the Electoral College for the candidate who got the most votes in that county (from legitimate voters).

If the communists don’t like giving sparsely populated places the same power as NYC or Los Angeles, the let them move to “flyover country” and vote there. But of course they would NEVER do that. Those who places have too much common sense and Christianity.

actually, I would support returning to the Constitutional provision that US Senators should be named by the States and NOT voted on by the people.
The Senate and the Electoral College (and indeed, much of the US Constitution) were designed to be checks on the power of the federal government (and limitations on “democracy” which our Founders knew full well, from their reading of history, always leads to disaster for nations)

electoral system is not the same as the college. the electoral system is about states electing the president, because we are NOT just one big country, but a union which was created by individual states, each which casts its votes for president.
if Republicans don’t learn how to argue & debate issues, we might end up with another progressive era, like when the United States senate became less democratic by democratically electing senators instead of having senators appointed by state lawmakers as ambassadors to equally represent the will of each state government. and let’s not forget about the 1913 income tax, which was passed because people were told it only would ever be a tax on the rich & never would exceed 10%.
I heard on TV some Democrat activist claiming 16 year olds pay taxes, thus if we don’t give them the right to vote, then that is “taxation without representation”. What taxes do 16 year old pay? sales tax? How about corporations? Corporations pay tax on their earnings & they pay taxes on their payrolls, just like individuals pay...but individuals have the right to vote in elections, but corporations do not get to vote in elections even though they are taxed as individuals are taxed. It is more persuasive to claim that corporations deserve the right to vote than to claim that 16 year olds deserve the right to vote! But liberals are livid about corporations having free speech & their lawyers want to claim that any time a corporation speaks, then it’s securities fraud.
The electoral system makes sense. What does not make sense is senators being elected by popular vote & having unlimited 6 year terms.
Now the electoral ‘college” is another thing, but it’s ironic that liberals now are attacking the electors themselves when after the election, they believed the college of electors could save them from the Trump presidency by ignoring the popular vote of the states.
Fact is, we can get rid of electors & the college, but keep the system. If you win the popular vote of the state, then you automatically win the electoral votes of the state......or else states may split their electoral votes by district.....then in that case, you get the electoral vote of a district if you win the popular vote of that district & whichever candidate wins the popular vote of the state wins the electoral votes for the two senators, which is what they represent. or perhaps, the two senators may cast votes. Each state has as many electoral votes as it has districts as it has congressmen & women to represent those districts, plus two more electoral votes.....which represent the fact that each state has two senators. Anyway, the system is a good system & to eliminate an electoral system is to ignore the reality that we are a union of states, not just one country. recounts would be impossible without an electoral system.

America could do with a LOT LESS democracy. The republic envisioned by the Founding Fathers gave voting rights to property-owning men. That was a fine system.

The left has twisted our republic to the point of being unrecognizable. We’re going to have to take drastic action to protect the American way of life.

The following is a scenario that I hope is not necessary, but which needs to be seriously debated in the conservative movement.

I used to think America needed its own Pinochet. But we might actually need a Napoleon or Julius Caesar to pull us out of this mess. We might have to declare the creation of an American Empire with Trump as emperor. That would give Trump the authority to do what needs to be done — in a way that temporary emergency power could not.

Under this scenario, Trump would have more than just temporary dictatorial power. He’d temporarily hold the sovereignty of the nation in his hands. No court or legislature could oppose him. For a while, Trump would BE the state. This is power only a patriot like Trump could ever be trusted to have.

And because Trump could name a successor (not necessarily one of his sons, though it could be), this would ensure that the country remained in safe hands if Trump died in office.

I know this sounds crazy to modern ears. But the republic is already gone. It’s been replaced by the Deep State cabal. It’s been that way for a long time. So we have little to lose.

Only by temporarily placing sovereignty in the hands of a single, trusted patriot can we expect to defeat the cabal and RESTORE the republic we lost decades ago.

The establishment of an Empire would be a temporary measure. Once the leftist menace is defeated, we would naturally reestablish the republic we had in place prior to the Deep State takeover, which happened shortly after WWII.

The whole project to restore the republic would take less than a decade.
