Some people think Alzheimer is caused by periodontal pathogens.
Effects of Ginkgo biloba extract on periodontal pathogens and its clinical efficacy as adjuvant treatment - PubMed (nih.gov)
Someone posted an article saying that a key cause of Alzheimer’s is spirochetes, a class that includes the microbe that causes Lyme disease. The article went on to say that the spirochetes got to the brain through the mouth, and that brushing with baking soda was an effective way of preventing this from happening.
Going down a rabbit-hole on spirochetes, I found this interesting article:

Thanks for that link. I’ve tried to find Ginkgo in powdered form (my preferred way of taking herbs) but no luck so far.
I’ve also read that spirochetes can migrate to the brain with ill effects. One of the dentists I went to (he was bad in other ways, I’ve had bad dentist karma!) had a test to check for bacteria count in the mouth. He was amazed at the results of my test, he had never seen such a low count. He asked what I brushed my teeth with.
Answer: Baking soda.
He said that was the reason. (so, he wasn’t ALL bad)
Usually I brush teeth with home made tooth powder, posted recipe on the thread someplace, and can again if anyone wants. 3/4 powdered green clay, 1/4 baking soda, with a variety of powdered herbs and some essential oils.
According to Ayurveda, tooth pastes are not very good for the teeth as they are gooey and sweet. The sweet taste is not healthy for teeth, even if stevia or that birch sweetener. Bitter, hot and astringent tastes are good, which is the taste of my tooth powder; but essential oils make it taste good without any “sweetness”. Also some people, depending on constitution, have naturally stronger teeth, thicker enamel, etc and some have naturally poorer teeth (raising my hand).
Another bit: A couple of years ago I got my teeth cleaned at a local cheapie dental clinic, and the dental assistant was amazed how clean my teeth were - no plaque, tartar, nothing. Asked when I had them last cleaned, I said “about three years ago”. She had never seen such clean teeth. In addition to tooth powder and baking soda, I brush teeth right after eating, and do oil pulling most days.
My only regret is not starting these routines YEARS ago!
I also use a type of toothbrush invented by a dentist decades ago. The first time I tried this type of tooth brush my teeth felt much cleaner than usual.
The site has a lot of info, their product line has increased since I last looked, sounds like they want to get rich.
Tooth brushes, scroll down to see a short video of the brushing method recommended:
Read a study many years ago, posted right here on FR, that spoke about this very issue and how baking soda eliminated it. I’ve been brushing with baking soda ever since, and my dentist is amazed at how healthy my gums are.
I also use baking powder to brush my teeth. Thanks, lj!
