In today's stunning news of a college bribery scandal alleging that ultrawealthy, well-connected, privileged elites conspired with a college preparatory business to falsify their children's test scores and bribe university officials to get them into the country's top schools, is this bit of high-weirdness, reported in CNN:
In one case, [Rick Singer, founder of the college prep firm called The Key] even worked with parents to take staged photos of their child engaged in particular sports. In another example, they used stock photos of a person playing a sport and then put the face of a student onto that of an athlete via Photoshop, prosecutors said.
The two most famous parents of those indicted are actresses Lori Loughman and Felicity Huffman, but the full list also includes a number of Silicon Valley and LA power players, including investor William "Bill" McGlashan, who co-founded a social impact fund called The Rise Fund with U2's Bono and eBay co-founder Jeff Skoll, and Jane Buckingham, CEO of Trendera, a boutique marketing firm in LA.
ROTFL.
Ya mean, like this?
You need to work on your face tan more
All the named indictees are big Dem Party donors.
I think this is going blow wide open. Liberals believe with all their being that the ends justify the means. Bribing unethical college administrators to get the baby liberals into the”best” schools is the logical extension of that mindset.
They invented affirmative action and promoted it. Then they devised this scheme to get around it.
Jail time is appropriate.
One of my SILs is girls golf coach at a big suburban high school that sends a lot of girls to univ on scholarships.
In this day of massive internet data, it’s hard to believe any college recruiter would get “faked out” by a Photoshop pic. It’s got to be simple bribery.
I hate it when people cheat.
Im having a problem with that also. Our daughter was a division one high school tennis player and was recruited by various colleges. Every recruiting coach was familiar with her as well as other players she knew that they were interested in. They had stalked them at events and knew everything related to their tennis ability and accomplishments. The coaches had watched them during high school events, several recalling who they beat and who they lost to, their game strengths etc.
They aren’t getting faked out...they are just claiming to have an interest in them for sports, so the admissions board will apply different standards to them than they do for regular students.
People have been axin' all day...
"Who else?"
"Who else, maybe at Hahvahd..."
It looks like the coach was bribed first ($400K for one student for the Yale soccer coach!), then the coach could use the fake pictures if anyone else at the university asked too many questions.
The parents viewed these schools as credential machines, and in many cases their perceptions were accurate.
The university system needs a total overhaul—hopefully online education will eventually reach its potential to turn the brick and mortar universities into quaint landmarks of a distant past.
