NASA wants to jump-start development of landers to take humans to the Moon After more than a year of talk about returning humans to the Moon, NASA is asking the aerospace community to come up with designs for landers that can transport astronauts to the lunar surface. NASA’s goal is to test out these vehicles on the Moon as early as 2024 and then use them to take people to the lunar surface by 2028

You do know that NASA is not actually building SLS/Orion, but is being built by traditional space companies?

Perhaps the new space companies (which are also funded by NASA) can respond better than the older behemoths burdened by internal and external bureaucracies.

Yes I do know.....worked for behemoth Lockheed/Shuttle for 32 yrs.
NASA still has overall management and oversite responsiblity.
Human-rated spacecraft is a totally different ballgame then whats been
launched the last 9 years. Good luck to them all.

NASA needs to decide, do we want to be relevant to space travel and establishing a base on the moon and going to Mars or be a works program for our employees?

Great questions !

Only one seed sprouted then died - the rest never sprouted ... you just can’t trust robots to have green thumbs ...

Tinfoil hat firmly affixed, sir!

Oh yes indeed. My reference was to "Penetration" by Ingo Swann...a person who is featured and detailed on a certain blog site.

Ah, remote viewing! I spend many a sleepless night listening to Art Bell talk about the subject.

And this is why SpaceX has been doing better than NASA recently. It is not a works program, and doesn't have to worry about spreading the dollars to different congressional districts to get funding for their projects.

Did they mean “humans” or “LIBs”? The latter would be something I would support.

Might be worried about the Chinese having the first restaurant.

I wonder if chow fung is high-glycemic?

@Bloody Sam Roberts

Thanks for pinging me on this.

Yeah. Trump has an urgent need to recover from the eight years of Obama’s destruction of NASA, and the previous near 20 years of suppression.

The technology to do this is available in the SAP programs within the various contractors. It’s not going to be as difficult as everyone might think.

The big issue is pulling things out of the black to use on white programs. Carve outs are a tricky beast.

Access to the moon will be conditional. With many restricted areas. NASA and the new “Space Fleet” will be working overtime to censor photos and sanitize communications.

I anticipate a “green light” for provisional and limited activity. But, that’s just me.

All this aside, Trump HAS to do this or lose the advantage it already maintains through MAJestic. Though he doesnt realize this, the geopolitical realities are driving this activity. China is moving forward and is not stopping because some SJW types want tampons in the boys restrooms. American cannot wait, and so the hand is being forced.

If it can be maintained is anyone’s guess. Trump may be out next year! Then what? What about Two years or four years later? The first things the Democrats do when they take control of the presidency is...

[1] Stage a mass shooting to ban guns.
[2] Cut funding to NASA and give the money to their funding base.

We will see. We will see.
