Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez originally claimed on her campaign website that she grew up in the Bronx, and that she had a long commute every day to get to a better school in the suburbs.
Several people responded by saying that she only lived in the Bronx until she was five years old, and that she later lived in a middle class suburb, and that she did not have the long daily commute to school that she had claimed.
One her her critics wrote the following:
Right, but @Ocasio2018 didn’t grow up in a city. She grew up in a small, homogenous, affluent suburb, where she attended excellent schools before pretending she grew up in the Bronx.
In my opinion, it would have been best for Oxasio-Cortez to have done one of the two following things:
Either
1) Defend her original claim.
Or
2) Admit that her critics were telling the truth.
However, instead of doing one of those two things, Ocasio-Cortez falsely accused one of her critics of being sexist, when she wrote the following (the bolding is mine):
In which a Republican literally tries to mansplaining *my own childhood* and life to me.
And in true mansplaining form, he’s doing it wrong with an great degree of confidence.
It begs the question: is the GOP really “sending us their best?”
By accusing her critic of “mansplaining,” Ocasio-Cortez is falsely accusing him of being sexist.
In reality, there is nothing sexist in his criticism of her.
Ocasio-Cortez views herself as being a victim of imaginary sexism that does not actually exist.
Also, the fact that she changed her campaign website in response to the criticism suggests – very strongly – that her critics were correct. It appears that she did indeed lie about her upbringing.
I don’t care where Ocasio-Cortez grew up.
But I do care if she lied about it.
And more importantly, I care that she is so horrible at debating that she feels the need to falsely accuse her critic of being sexist.
She fits the democrat mold....LIARS and WEASELS!
Wake me up when she is the republican nominee for President....
She could fit the republican mold as well.

She had a third option: shut up! She got caught in an untruth, at best a misremembered, misstated assertion (rather as if I were to say that I grew up in New Jersey), at worst, an outright lie aimed at attracting votes in her urban, Hispanic Congressional District. She missed an opportunity to just quietly close the subject by correcting her website and saying nothing more.
Well. Maybe so. But she still waked further to school through the snow, up hill, than you or I did. Then, she had to walk back home after school through the snow, up hill.
It is rough growing up in middle class suburbs.
[Someone in a related Cortez thread posted that the average family worth in that suburb was around $1.2 million.]

I'm not familiar with the term "mansplaining". Is it something like b**chslapped?
This is likely to get a lot worse, before it gets better. 👎 Calling some one a sexist, is tame, compared to the names she might call people in the future. She is a wench.
She already wanted to run for Prez...Then someone told her she had to be 35 years old...She had this puzzled look on her face like “Really?”
Is Free Republic becoming the unofficial Ocasio-Cortez web site? This ditz is receiving free publicity on a daily basis.

It would be hard to believe (even for a dem) that at 26 she can’t remember her grade & high school years. Some thiMgs you just can’t lie your way out of.
Any day now, I expect her to say Trump can’t be populist because he isn’t that popular.
