British actor and 2018 "sexiest man alive" Idris Elba recently told The Sunday Times that the #MeToo movement is "only difficult if you're a man with something to hide." Vanity Fair contrasted Elba's uncompromising stance with remarks made by Matt Damon and Henry Cavill, who both had to walk back their criticisms of #MeToo's potential excesses and their perceived sympathy for accused men.
Valerie Jarrett and Shonda Rhimes tweeted praise for Elba. Essence said his answer was "perfect."
Is #MeToo only a problem for men who have something to hide? I doubt Aziz Ansariwho was smeared in the pages of babe.net because of a bad date involving some misinterpreted cueswould agree. Or Stephen Henderson, the first black editor of The Detroit Free Press' opinion pages, who lost his job for vaguely-defined inappropriate behavior that had generated zero complaints. (My colleague Shikha Dalmia called this a clear case of #MeToo run amok.)

If you go through life looking like Idris Elba, you have a different experience in the dating world than you do looking like Harvey Weinstein. It doesn’t mean you have to be a creep if you are of meager physical gifts, or that no classically attractive man is a creep because they have women throwing themselves at him, but the life experiences are way different.
I wonder what he thinks about stop and frisk?
Bingo! The consequences of being in a room with a woman other than your wife are getting too huge for man to ignore and men are going to avoid putting themselves in peril.
The irony is that women will complain that they are being treated differently and men will be directed by HR that they MUST work with women the same as men. which will force the men to cut off contact with other men too rather than putting themselves in a metoo meat grinder. Equality! Utterly toxic fear-based work environment achieved.
Did he not notice the spectacle that was the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings? HE DID NOTHING WRONG-HE HAD NOTHING TO HIDE.
“something to hide”?
Sausage...
Gonna be funny when his first accusation comes out.
Another mental midget. All it takes is 1 woman looking for fame, 1 mad rejected woman; and that’s it. No evidence needed.
Yes! My first thought.
And who used that very logic for too long to defend the Patriot Act?
That staunch quasi-conservative, Michael Savage.
I do not get many of Whollyweird’s obsessions, e.g., Ryan Gosling.
Gone are the days of John Wayne and James Stewart.
Ryan Gosling happens to be a very good actor.
