The government in France put out the word Wednesday night that the fuel tax would be suspended not just for six months, but for all of next year (2019).
The leader of the opposition National Rally (former National Front) Marine Le Pen tweeted late Wednesday night that President Emmanuel Macron should pledge on his honor not to reintroduce the tax wit the amended budget in the spring.
Whether this apparent concession will help stamp out protests is uncertain.
Four have died and hundreds have been injured in the weeks of protests by the "yellow vests" but now high school and university students with separate grievances than those of the "yellow vests" are organizing and staging on campus protests shutting down schools across France.
They are pledging to take to the streets this Saturday with those protesting against the fuel taxes that have already sharply increased the cost of gasoline and diesel fuel.
If that scenario materializes it will put France's special riot police (the CRS) under more pressure perhaps forcing them to increase the tempo of tear gas, stun grenade and water cannon attacks on protesters.
The Elysee Palace (the Presidential Residence-Office) put out the word Wednesday night that it fears a group of thousands coming to Paris on Saturday to kill and destroy or as the Google translation of the BFM-TV report put it:
"to break and kill"
In an interview on BFM-TV Thursday morning, a minister in the government, Jacqueline Gorault, warned against travel to Paris on Saturday claiming that people bent on violence were coming to the city. Her message appears to be an attempt to suppress demonstrators from showing up by sowing fear.
Social media is filled with calls for protesters to converge on the "Main Street" of Paris, the Champs-Elysees, on Saturday.
A poll done for BFM-TV shows 72 percent public support for the "yellow vests" protest.
Some 15 high schools in Paris were the site of blockades Thursday morning with an attempt to block the city's Sorbonne University by 40 people failing.

I’m reading a just published BBC story and one issue for high school students is their entitlement to go to university if they pass their end of school exams.
Macron wants to create a situation where universities get to pick and choose who they will admit.
Amen.
.......could be arriving with le guillotine, non?........
Lots of unintended consequences for Macron. The protests and dissatisfaction have spilled over to other areas beyond taxes. His political opponents are having a field day.
The tax wont be reintroduced. They will figure out some other way to increase revenue.
He said he’d rule like “Jupiter”. Bet Jupiter never had days like this . . . . . .
Macron has found that life sucks without USA dollars to fund government stupidity based on the lie of anthropogenic climate warming global change.
Or whatever this BS is called lately.
Theres s video of that that was all over Twitter a few days ago.
Glad it’s available to seen/heard “as it” with no tampering by MSM.
I disagree. The Left is totally invested in the AGW lie.
The planed path to one world government strategy is dependent on the success of the premise CO2 is causing climate change.
The Left can see the light at the end of tunnel. They have tens of millions of true believers out there that have swallowed the hook. Their future as The Global Leadership depends on grabbing control of Carbon Emissions and thereby the energy economy.
The Carbon Tax is their road to the promised land and they are not going to give up on that strategy with out a knock down drag out fight.
Yes. It doesnt appear to have been tampered with.
They won’t add it to the price of gas. The people won’t stand for such a regressive tax. France is the second most taxed country in the world after Denmark.
You could be right
A fuel tax is highly visible but I would bet that they will keep trying.
A carbon tax has been a Leftist goal for a long time and they are so close they can taste it.
They will probably try something like the Leftist in this country proposed a few years back where those below a certain income would get a tax rebate to offset the carbon tax.
