Had a 45 minute flight with a very loud, very rude soccer mom and her “angels” who chattered non stop at a pitch that would send dogs running in a 3 mile radius. They would routinely scream and shout to which she responded a soft “sshhhh.” Happened every 5 minutes or so. The youngest kid had a pacifier. He was probably no younger than 5.

They slammed into the back of the seat and kicked the seat in front of them. Her voice would carry over the entire plane as she found an equally Bffer/free ranger “parent” aka soccer mom with HER entitled brat.

I knew it would be trouble when I saw her ASK her children if they WOULD LIKE to get on the plane when it was their turn to board.

It pains me to say this, but what we need is an old fashioned depression, and a cultural reset.

As a child of the 1950s growing up in a poor household I am also amazed at how children are raised today.

One lesson I learned growing up, you need to work for what you needed and for things you may want.

A WANT is not the same as a NEED. Needs come first.

Put away a little for a rainy day because there will always be a rainy day.

These simple truths have not been passed down to the next generation.

P.S. Spoiled, jaded children, not unlike liberals, are constantly discontented; always looking for something BETTER and thus are the most unhappiest “depressed” lot on the face of this earth.

kids are not prepared for real life when they get everything handed to them.
Boyfriend break ups, losing video games.... not the end of the world by a long shot. But some teens kill themselves over that. KILL THEMSELVES. It’s insane.
Life is not fair, you do SO have to work hard, no matter what some crazy assed teacher tells them.
and those f&@@3$%^ phones....$600.00 bux a pop? are you kidding me? My stepgrands family live on public assistance- but there are 2 I phones in that house.

The “ingratitude of the masses” has accelerated exponential by social media.

Reples to all the replies:

I hear ya!! Parents were told in the 60’s not to spank.. to reason with the child... toddlers don’t reason... we were told not to spank/discipline in anger.. when else does one discipline.. while it’s fresh on the mind of the beholder and they know what it’s for.

I never waited on “when your father gets home”... we took care of it immediately.. a child will learn by 3 when you mean business. Keep it constitent... don’t waver just cause your’re tired.
Respect was important to me... show your mother respect! I demanded it.. but I also gave it to them.

These are the kids that will be pushing us around in wheelchairs at the old folks home.

Sigh.

It’s a great post, and I know how you feel!

This opinion is not new. You can find these thoughts in very old literature.

Perhaps it’s worse now because more “marginal” (stupid) people survive because we have it so good these days.

We are a bunch of ungrateful half grown adults

**************

It seems we live in an age where children act like adults and adults act like children.

Yesterday’s Kavanaugh hearing was a case in point. The nominee’s children were well behaved while the Democrat senators acted like children throwing tantrums.

A well written post.

I was born a few years later. We had electricity and indoor plumbing.

My four older sisters remembered when we had neither.

We need a little more “thank you” Jesus.

And to be thankful for what we have as much and what we haven’t.

The victims of these generation believe they never make mistakes, it’s always someone else’s fault when a mistake is made, and they are entitled to special rights and privileges. There are no boundaries or rules which apply to them.

We have allowed this to happen by “spoiling” our children. Now it’s time to pay up ...

Maybe we need another World War in which everyone has to contribute or be on the front lines.

Young people have no concept of sacrifice in America. None. Their idea of sacrifice is going without their gaming machine for a night.

Yes, what kids have today is a far cry from what those of us who grew up during the Depression had. However, I don't begrudge it to them.I worked hard so my kids could have more things than I had. They all turned out well, so it must have worked.
