Today’s Campaign Update (Because The Campaign Never Ends)
God bless them and their families. – The remains of 55 U.S. soldiers killed during the Korean Conflict more than 65 years ago arrived back in the United States on Thursday, as part of the commitments Kim Jong Un made to President Donald Trump in their meeting in Singapore last month. The transfer coincides with the 65th anniversary of the armistice that created the demilitarized zone between North Korea and South Korea and ended the active military fighting phase of the Conflict. The U.S. government believes that the remains of around 5,300 U.S. military personnel still reside in North Korea, so yesterday’s event was just a down payment on what will be a long and somber process.
The #FakeNews follies just keep on coming. – In a desperate effort to distract public attention from this morning’s release of what is expected to be very strong 2nd quarter GDP numbers, the fake news media worked overtime rolling out the rumors yesterday.
My favorite bit of fake news came from New York Times Clinton shill Maggie Haberman, who “reported” that, according to anonymous sources (of course), Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his band of merry Clinton/Obama hacks are now scouring President Trump’s Twitter feed in their ongoing efforts to dummy up a fake obstruction of justice charge. While Ms. Haberman no doubt intended this fake news to be some sort of bombshell, if it’s true, it’s actually wonderful news for the President and his supporters because it is such a sign of rank desperation on the part of the Mueller team.
Think about it: Mueller has had dozens of hack lawyers and FBI investigators working round the clock for more than a year now, feverishly searching for some evidence – any real evidence at all would do – that the President somehow obstructed justice during the early days of his presidency. And he’s got bupkis. Nothing. Nada. Zippo. Zilch. So he’s now reduced to assigning these high-powered hacks and gumshoes to spend their days going through the Twitter account of the President of the United States of America, hoping against hope that some smoking gun has just been sitting there in the public domain for months and none of the hundreds of millions of Twitter users have noticed.
Good luck with that, Bob.
Then you have the ever-reliable CNN (why do almost all of these fake news stories originate with either the NYTimes or CNN?) fake reporting that weasel shyster Michael Cohen is supposedly willing to tell Mueller that then-candidate Donald Trump knew in advance of the infamous October 2016 meeting his son Don, Jr. had with that Russian lawyer who the FBI and Clinton Campaign knew all about and were probably paying.
CNN says its “report” is based on “sources with knowledge”. Well hell, I have “knowledge” of all of this – so do probably half of the people in the United States, given all the time CNN and the myriad other fake news outlets have spent on their vain attempts to turn what was a basic opposition research meeting into some sort of crime over the last 10 months. I mean, seriously, that vague description by CNN could mean that its “source” for this information is the guy running the hot dog truck down on the corner of 43rd Street and 7th Avenue (those are really great hot dogs, by the way).
But let’s think about what this story means if it turns out to be true: It means that the candidate knew that his son and others working on his campaign knew they were doing some opposition research, meeting with someone who claimed to have damaging information about their opponent. If that can be turned into some sort of criminal act, then everyone every involved in any campaign anywhere in the United States needs to have a grand jury convened against them.
The reality is that Mr. Cohen is a desperate man who finds himself on the brink of being prosecuted for allegations of bank fraud, tax fraud and myriad other crimes unrelated to the Trump campaign or presidency. He is also a notorious serial liar who is willing to say pretty much anything to keep himself from going to prison, where a soft guy like him probably would not fare too well. So it would not be at all surprising that he might be willing to tell CNN’s alleged story to Mueller to get a deal.
But make no mistake about it: The reason why you are seeing this story and Ms. Haberman’s bit of news fakery all over your TV sets this morning is simply to give the entirety of America’s fake news media an excuse to by and large ignore the very positive GDP growth numbers that will be released later this morning.
Timing is everything in life, especially if your job is the daily faking of the news.
[UPDATE] About 5 minutes after I posted this piece, the President began addressing this very subject on his Twitter feed (it’s amazing how often this happens – you’d think he’s reading these things as I type them):

Sounds to me like someone is trying to make up stories in order to get himself out of an unrelated jam (Taxi cabs maybe?). He even retained Bill and Crooked Hillary’s lawyer. Gee, I wonder if they helped him make the choice!
