These days newspapers with local classified ads hardly exist. So outside specialty periodicals, I'm not sure what to use to try to find local people who might have cats/kittens to sell/give away. (This goes for dogs too but that is a bit different for my approach to acceptable animals.)

So please, I am aware of local SPCAs (literally 2 min from me) and "adoption" places, but I want to know if there are good sites that help connect with local people who might have a litter they want to sell.

Again, I'm not looking to be told to go to the shelter (I can do that, but frankly prefer home-raised animals) or breeders. I'm already aware of that and they are easy to find on-line. I'm looking to find just general people who might have cats to sell or give away, as often happened with newspapers where one could find all kinds.

The few sites I've run across I'm not sure are really user-friendly. Looking for easy-to-use searches and so on.

Ask at your church.
Or, ask anyone with kids. Schoolchildren always know.

What about a local veterinary office?

Local vet or animal hospital? They may know of customers who recently had a population explosion.

You can also ask the local veterinary clinic about someone needing to offload a cat.
That’s how I got my current cat.
My missus lost her cat, he passed away from health issues, and the vet sent us to a person he knew who had four kittens.
We were there for one (1. Singular.) cat.
Well, this ridiculous ball of fluff walked up to me, pawed my back, then climbed to my shoulder to fall asleep.
Four years later, my missus has her eighteen pound chunk cat, and I have my fluff ball shoulder cat.

I have always had cats and always let them have a litter or two before fixing them.

I advertised in Uncle Henry’s which is a multi state classified. And I put signs up at the end of our driveway and at the local store.

Put up a kitten wanted sign.

Some FReepers know a lot about cat and kitten rescues. I bet you can get a good response.

Most people charge a fee so they don’t end up as snake food.

Location is a determinate. If you are small town to rural then
monthly community events, church sales/events, fairs/festivals,
visiting local stores that cater to rural buyers, etc. Good luck.

If you sign up on a website called “nextdoor” it will allow you to post about this and people in your local area will see it and respond.

Here’s the advice the German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County gives. Just replace the word dog with cat.

What about rescue facilities? Do they have those for cats? I would also suggest just looking around in your day to day life. Lots of stray & abandoned kitties needing a good home. They seem to show up when you least expect. I have a former stray now my Mom picked up & I inherited when she passed away. Another I picked up on the interstate (named ‘Freeway’). Both are awesome cats & those abandoned/strays make the best kitties! Good luck finding your special friend!

County Humane societies and County shelters. Also, Many shelters use Petfinder to show photos of available animals.

Aren’t there any community bulletin boards up near you? Perhaps in a coffee shop?

If you are looking for a PET cat to cherish and keep, you can’t do better or easier than going to Petfinder.com or Overstock.com. Overstock.com? you ask. Yep. They have a pet adoption tab at the right hand bottom of the page and an excellent search engine connecting to shelters nationwide and in Canada. I found my precious kitty Zizu on Overstock last year. With both, you click on your zip code, the distance you’re willing to travel to go see the pet, the type of pet you seek (dog, cat, other), the breed, the age (kitten, young, adult, senior), and can set up filters for additional traits such as color, length of coat, and any other particulars.
