I’ll take a stab at answering all those questions as simply as possible.
They are the dregs of the 3rd world from Central and South America. Illiterate in their own languages, let alone English. They carried into this country, diseases that had all but been eradicated. They were young kids, mostly males, up to grown men who claimed to be teenagers. They were transported all over the country and dumped all over the place. They were placed with phony relatives and are now in your schools. They are the recruits for MS13, Mexican Mafia, etc etc etc.
And they were all welcomed here, with open arms by obama and the democrats. As to the legality, obama himself said that DACA wouldn’t stand up in court, but it was never challenged. The President said he was going to eliminate it, Day 1. He didn’t. State AGs were going to sue, but apparently relied on the President to handle it. He didn’t. He has no kicked a solution to the 500 or so idiots, commonly referred to as, Congress, for a solution.
I think that about sums it up.

Good question, no good answer except that politicians from both parties allowed Obama to do whatever he wanted, but for differing reasons.

Unaccompanied children (supposedly) from various countries.
Where did they(DACA) come from?
See above, mostly, if not all, from South American countries.

Scattered throughout the country.

They crossed over our southern border from Mexico.

American taxpayers, no we get to pay. We receive nothing.

Not that I am aware of.

Exact count unknown anywhere from 800,000 to 3 million are what I have seen, through reportedly 800,00 have actually signed up in the DACA program.
What are their(DACA) ages and sex?
Unknown, but we can be assured they are male, female, or something else (just to be politically correct here).
Were they(DACA) vetted?
Yeah right.
Were they(DACA)kidnapped by America?
No they were a gift, according to democrats & RINO's like Jeb Bush.
Why do we know so little about DACA?
Apparently you have been living under a rock, as we know more than we should have to know about them.

It was & still is an American immigration policy that allowed some individuals who entered the country as minors, and had either entered or remained in the country illegally, to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and to be eligible for a work permit. As of 2017, approximately 800,000 individuals were enrolled in the program created by DACA. The policy was established by the Obama Administration in June 2012 and plans to begin phasing it out were initiated by the Trump Administration in September 2017.

The Commie Democrats proposed the Dream Act (law) to allow illegal alien minor children to stay and become legalized. The law was never passed.
In 2012, Dept. of Homeland Security Director Janet Napolitano simply “issued a memo” saying all illegal alien minor children could stay in America as long as they liked.
The spineless GOP Congress did nothing, allowing DACA to become the defacto law of the land.
By 2016, the gutless Republicans held both the Senate and House, yet STILL REFUSED to pass a law overturning the DACA policy Obama passed with nothing more than a memo. By silently tolerating DACA, the GOP Senators and Congressmen basically rubber stamped it. They never fought it.
And now they have been here so long, there is no political will to eject the little illegal brats.
I hate the GOP. They are 45% of the problem with America.
