Bump to keep Pinkbell from disappearing behind the curtain until it’s safe to come out again.

I see all the dismissive reactions on this thread to Pinkbell's report on the reaction of some of the President's supporters regarding what he allegedly said about immigration in a recent closed-door meeting.

For the sake of argument, let's presume that the President did make comments along the lines of what's been represented.

I count myself among the President's staunchest supporters—this community veritably teems with them—but what some of the more aggressive voices around here seem to be discounting is the fact that many of the President's more reluctant supporters are indeed taken aback by his flippant comments in this instance.

For example, the President's characterization of majority White countries like Norway as positive immigration examples, coupled with his disparagement of majority Black countries like Haiti as negative examples of immigration—sh-tholes, apparently—was indeed unfortunate.

Even though the President didn't formally highlight race with his comments, they certainly provided an opportunity for his Enemies—and even some of his more impressionable and sensitive supporters—to form that impression.

Therefore, any such comments—even if truthful—were also gratuitous and ill-advised, amounting to an unforced error. The President antagonizing his Enemies is a routine occurrence, of course, but giving pause to his more tentative supporters—potentially alienating them—is something which should be assiduously avoided.

I'm one of the President's biggest cheerleaders around here—I get accused of it all the time—but while I understand what he was trying to say in this instance, the unassailable fact remains that his comments were "inartful", to say the least.

It's not wise to flippantly dismiss the effect the President's comments might have had, whether on existing supporters or potential supporters—both of whom may now be less inclined to give the President a fair hearing at some point in the future.

The President—if he made these comments—erred in doing so, and should have apologized for his inartful tone, in light of the backlash which has occurred—a backlash not merely isolated to his detractors.

“”This country was built by great Americans from #shitholecountries””

These people never care to name names tho’, do they? How about just one?? It’s the same as obozo saying muslims helped build our country and contributed meaningful “things” to it - USA. We never did learn any names or just what they contributed!

It would be wise to point out that our relations with Japan started to sour in the 1920s when the US passed a bill restricting immigration from asian countries. The Japanese took at as an insult, and the militarists ultimately were able to exploit it for their own aims....and we all know what happened after that.

I call BS on Pink-o-bell.

Were it not for ‘Robin’ there would be nothing at all to say, even after ‘painstakingly’ researching every blasted commentor’s history. NOT!

Give me a break!

Painstaking? It’s called reading their timelines. All you have to do is go back and see their Twitter histories. These were people who had voted for Trump and had pro-Trump posts on their timelines who say they regret voting for him now. I provided links to the Tweets and you can look at their timelines for yourself.

I don’t think any of them are bots. A read of their timelines does not look like those of bots. The left does this all the time, and it drives me nuts. Any time someone says something they don’t like, they call them a Russian bot. It’s easier to call people bots than to realize that there are people who think differently.

Well, and that was part of my point that I raised in that, the White House should have been out there immediately at the forefront of the firestorm with a statement and explanation. They gave a statement which led many to believe he said it because they didn’t deny it. The media had hours to run with it before Trump Tweeted, and by then, his Tweets (which still aren’t specific) were like a garden hose on a house fire.

I would urge you to look through the account histories. They were Trump supporters.

It’s not the number that’s significant per say. However, it’s important to know what is costing him support. If there are people Tweeting it, there are probably others thinking it. He has gone down in polls with certain groups, and so these people may reflect why.

It didn’t take me long at all.

What’s wrong with Trump going to Britain? Kahn and the left over there are celebrating and claiming credit that he stayed home. He should go and ruin their day. They’ll have to protest, but it will be to no avail.

If you look at my posting history and my blog, you can see damn well I am a Trump supporter. I did in depth, researched posts defending Trump. Show me your blog doing the same.

What I will not do is not call out a problem if I see it. I did during the campaign a couple times - right before Lewandowski was fired and right before Manafort was fired. I got attacked on here by people who claimed everything was fine. Trump didn’t think so because those people were shortly fired not long after I posted. (I’m not saying I played a role - no way Trump ever saw it, but I’m saying he and his team saw a problem when people here were pretending there wasn’t one.)

Trump wants to win reelection, and I want him to, and in doing so, we have to know what is hurting him. Not everyone who voted for Trump is as supportive as the folks on FR. There are voters who voted as a protest against Hillary or who are independent/moderate/Dem/establishment Rep, and he can’t afford to lose those voters. We also have midterms coming up, and we can’t afford to lose seats. Dems want to impeach Trump.

Why wasn’t the White House out there immediately denying it? They should have been if it was false. Why weren’t they out there period with a statement explaining what was said? The media had full reign with the narrative. Frustrating.

I agree. The left does the “true whole world is against Trump” thing all the time. Stupid people say “yep we are”. Normal folk say he talks like we do.

You’ve never been a Trump supporter. Revisionism is you. And luckily he is a lot smarter than you and cancelled that Potemkin Village-like state visit.

It’s not fake news. Just because we don’t like something, doesn’t mean it’s fake news.
