Could Trump Risk His Base With the Wrong Immigration Deal?
Donald Trump For President Blog ^ | January 9, 2017 | Pinkbell

Posted on 01/09/2018 7:42:25 PM PST by Pinkbell

In 2013, Trump tweeted two things:

.@GOP need to face reality – not one of the illegal immigrants granted amnesty will vote Republican.

https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/302155020697235456

Amnesty is suicide for Republicans. Not one of those 12 million who broke our laws will vote Republican.Obama is laughing at @GOP.

https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/314093741562535936?lang=en

I took the opportunity to watch the full meeting Trump had at the White House today. It was nearly an hour, and it was bipartisan. Trump stated unequivocally his support for DACA. I'm honestly torn on DACA. I did support it at one time, but after watching them bussed in for a protest wherein they attacked Trump and conservatives, watching their protests and seeing them even interrupt people on their side like Nancy Pelosi when she was speaking, and seeing multiple dreamers interviewed who want amnesty not only for their families but open borders to bring over more relatives, my support has decreased.

In the meeting, Trump spoke of a clean DACA bill at one point when Senator Feinstein suggested it, but after Kevin McCarthy interjected, Trump noted that his idea of a clean bill must include the wall and an end to chain migration and the visa lottery. However, he later began to speak of comprehensive immigration reform next after this bill. Trump, just like DACA, may be referring to comprehensive immigration reform differently than we would traditionally think with a lot of concessions for us, but in the traditional sense, that is usually amnesty or a reward for breaking our laws. He noted that the "far right" and "far left" might not be happy with him, but that he was willing to take the heat. Trump, at the end, noted that he had faith in the people in the room to get something done, and that he would sign whatever they put on his desk.

I'm torn between whether or not I should feel concerned like Ann Coulter (who is currently having a meltdown) or not, but for now, I'll wait and see what happens. I saw some of the Republicans in the room shaking their head at the prospect of amnesty without at least major concessions, so I hope they stick to their guns. I will say this, I understand Trump doesn't have 60 and will probably have to concede DACA to get enforcement, but the reality is the DACA people won't be grateful to him. Trump's Tweets were correct in 2013 that they will vote Democrat (they want to get amnesty for their family as well). We know this because a leaked memo from a leftist group just specified the importance of using illegal immigration for electoral success. That alone will make it more difficult for a Republican to win the swing states. If you add in the other 11 million (and come on - it's way more than that now), it's over. The Democrats will whine that it is terrible I made it about politics. Nonsense - it is to them as well as that memo shows. They would never argue for 11 million people to become citizens and vote Republican. Beyond that, there is the broader point that Trump emphasized while campaigning, we either have a country or we don't. A country is defined by both laws and borders, and both should be enforced.

Trump saying he will take the heat of the "far right" is not a wise thing to say because the "far right" is Trump's most fervent base - the ones defending him against a negative media onslaught, keeping his polls steady so he doesn't go below a certain percent, that are researching to help him fight the latest Russia attack, media attack, Dem attack, etc. They are the line that is protecting Trump from impeachment because they are the people who will vote in the next elections. One thing we know about Republicans is that they don't turn out to vote when they are angry. They don't vote Democrat, but they do stay home...which helps the Democrat. Trump ran on a tough immigration platform, and guess what? Despite the media and Dems calling him heartless, a racist, etc., Trump won on this platform in states Republicans haven't won for decades.

This is a tough situation because Trump will never likely have the 60 and Mitch won't get rid of the filibuster, so Trump has to do some compromising to get his agenda through. Here are things he should be requiring, though:

1. The Wall

2. Visa entry/exit tracking system

3. People who come over illegally should not be caught and released into the interior but should be immediately deported.

4. End of sanctuary cities

5. End of benefits to illegals

6. End of chain migration

7. End of visa lottery

8. E-Verify

9. End of birthright citizenship

You do all these things - just these things - and you are going have a lot of people either not coming or leaving who are here illegally. If Democrats cared about the rule of law at all, they would support these simple, common sense things. They don't, however. Every single one of them is a fight. Trump should put forth a bill with these things in them and barnstorm the country. Go out there and do rallies all along the border and in swing states and hit these points and keep asking over and over why the Democrats don't care about security. As he said during the campaign, when these things are done, THEN we look at what to do with the people who are still here. Democrats won't do these things, and Trump should keep asking why over and over and over again because the majority of Americans support most of these things and bring border patrol agents to talk about why they want the wall and the dangers they face. We shouldn't have to make a compromise for people who came here illegally of their own accord in order to enforce the law. I think this would help him in the midterms.

The bottom line is, I hope that Trump gets the above things done, and I hope he keeps his campaign promises against amnesty for people who violated the law because people didn't vote for Jeb! If they wanted amnesty they'd have voted for him or Grahamnesty (who proudly touted that nickname at the meeting). They didn't. They voted for Trump. Betrayal of voters who have fought for Trump for so long would be a shame.

Trump said today to the congressional turncoats, after DACA, it’s a short trip to comprehensive immigration reform. Send me a bill, and “I’ll take the heat.”

WTF? Comprehensive immigration reform = amnesty. Not what you campaigned on last year, Donald. A sure-fire way to lose the House this November and lose re-election in 2020.

Surely he’s smart enough to realize this would be an unmitigated disaster for him and his party.

Giving amnesty to these wet dreamers and their extended family members makes my vote totally worthless. The ‘RATS’ wets have me outgunned.

They’ll hold the line. Legislation doesn’t get to the floor without their consent. Yeah sign anything that gets through Congress controlled by his party. There’s enough conservatives in the House to make sure they get a good deal. It’s ‘rope a dope’ in play, and the Dems are the Dopes.

Democrats are afraid of Trump's base.

Trump's will use us as a bargaining chip, a threat, a promise he'll protect the snowflakes from us etc. etc etc etc. It's fine with me... he's fighting for America - for us... He'll get the best deal he can get. Have faith.

Hope you’re right, Red Steel. We all do.

But, I have to be honest. I’m tired of the feigning, rope-a-dope, head fakes and 9-D chess.

He won for, I’ll say, a few reasons. The BIGGEST being the Immigration issue.

He said he would end DACA and DAPA, on Day 1....didn’t happen
He said they would have to go home and come back in the right.....hasn’t happened

I know there’s more to it and it isn’t that easy. But, as we learn more and more about this program and those in it, we’re not talking about the kid who came here as a child or was born here, and ended up becoming a cop, fireman, Marine, Paratrooper, Doctor, Nurse or teacher, or whatever the hell they decided to do.

We’re talking about 800,000, 3rd worlder’s that hate out country and want to bring over their entire families to take root, vote democrat and continue to destroy the US. Pure and simple. Find me a neighborhood that they’ve moved into that they made better.

Under no circumstances will [President Trump] win over any Hillary voters.

That's just patently false. The tax cuts and the jobs are going to push many Democrats into the ranks of Trump supporters. Many Americans—even Democrats—are slowly but surely waking up from the absurd propaganda they've been indoctrinated with—propaganda which more and more simply does not comport with the actual facts.

Look, for example, at how the Democrats were lying about the tax cuts harming the middle class—and how those lies started being exposed almost from the very moment the bill was signed into law by the President!

If the President simply follows through with his #MAGA and #DrainTheSwamp policies, he will get more support from Democrats and Independents. Quite frankly, there are simply not enough abject idiots who will continue believing the absurd lies of the extreme delusional Left—lies which are simply too ludicrous to fool the People for an extended period of time.

More and more of the People see the mainstream Media as a joke, and since the Media is part and parcel of the Democrat party, this means that only the extremists will be left eventually to watch CNN, MSNBC, and their ilk.

Most thinking Americans will wake up from the Democrat lies and join in the process of making America great again and draining the Swamp—something an overwhelming majority of them want to see happen.

Honestly, you're giving the loony Left too much credit. Their propaganda is simply too ridiculous this time around—indeed, its outlandish nature is the main reason that Hillary lost the election in the first place...

We didn’t vote for the GOP, we voted for ‘the Donald’. We know who the GOPe are, the coming legislation will out them and they can be primaried and replaced for the general.

I fully expect a governemt shutdown. President Trump has given the DNC and GOPe the same rope given the PLA in Israel. He has offered them the ‘Safe State Immigration Solution’ and promised to sign it. Israel also did this, note that everything Arafat wanted was granted and he walked away. The DNC and GOPe will do the same.

The gov WILL shutdown, get on your phones, write letters, send emails (I too, must get on the official record). Only a HUGE outpouring of support for Our President will force the Congress of the United States of America to act in accordance with their sworn oath of office.

I know from personal experience that one’s stance on principle cannot be shaken, but one’s stance based upon “feelings or popularity, perks, pull, power, narcissism” will wilt in the flames of an enraged and informed electorate. Let these elected officials KNOW that illegal is illegal and we expect them to forward Our President a bill respectful of the beliefs of a nation (we, the people) of LAWS.

Rats scurry as do roaches when the light is shown. Let us shine the light of Liberty upon them and ensure we will endure ANY length of government shutdown until the Congress lives up to their sacred oath of office. They will be remembered forever as the Constitutional Congress of the age or the congress of guilt and shame. They are a puffed up lot but their biggest fear is always that of a ball player that is cut before they wish to go, those that stroke their egos will “lose their number” the moment they are gone.

They fear becoming the next Hillary no relevancy, out of sight out of mind and good riddance.

Not necessarily...Trump didn't say he would accept their version of immigration reform...He says they will immediately start to negotiate immigration reform...

Start contacting your Senators & Representatives! Tell them what you want to see in an immigration bill.

Build the wall!

You’re right. After all, Reagan compromised and later got most of what he wanted. Oh, wait. No, he didn’t. And we’ve paid for it for thirty-plus years now.

I have a friend in Texas, who is a Spanish speaker (bi-lingual), and knows a few families with DACA kids. He points to examples that he knows of individuals with STEM degrees and good jobs (he travels in a relatively affluent circle).

Some of them are worth keeping, economically. Perhaps half are underachievers or problematic, worth kicking back. I’d like to see a screening, based on merit.

Even among the meritorious segment of the DACA Mexicans though, I doubt there would be many Republican voters.

Your friend’s knowledge of those kids must be limited to a few. Wealthy Mexicans buy into legality here with $500,000 investment in. American business enterprise, bring the kids here on visas and they overstay.

Still an ugly disrespect for Americans and our country. Mexico needs them more than we.

30 Foot Wall porn:

No one is going to free climb this one.

30 foot walls will deter most humans - a fall from that height is fatal more often than not, and survivors are badly injured.

Yes my friend just knew a few Mexican families, who had lived in the USA for many years, and none of those were poor Mexicans (not a random, or representative sample).

Coming in illegally had been as easy as crossing the street in some of their cases. They even had some girls who lived in the USA their whole lives, but went back to Mexico to have their babies (where it is much cheaper), because they had so little concern about ever needing citizenship or legal status to live in the US.

Quite a few houses in the (nice) Texas neighborhood had Mexican owners, who were seldom in the houses, as their businesses were in Mexico, and they spent most of their time there.
