Always remember that once in office, ALL POLITICIANS SEES THEIR RE-ELECTION AS JOB #1.
Everything else is at #11 downwards. Thus McConnel sees his job on the line for maybe the 1st time in his life.

I’m no McConnell fan, but even before the Trump Administration, he had a reputation of fighting hard for conservative judges.
The ol’ rule that even your worst enemy has at least one redeeming quality holds true here.
