Concerns mount over Thad Cochran's health

The Mississippi senator has been recovering the past several weeks from a urological procedure. And concern is growing on and off Capitol Hill over whether the 79-year-old lawmaker will return to work on Monday when the Senate comes back from recess — not to mention how long he'll be able to continue leading a high-profile committee or even remain in the Senate.

Multiple sources close to the senator said his staff and allies have received limited information from his family about his health status, further fueling questions about his future.

Cochran's office maintains that the Mississippi Republican will return next week as planned, and Senate Republican aides said they expect him back as well. But several K Street sources and Cochran allies said he's unlikely to be back next week. Multiple sources said there's increasing worry his absence could stretch through the end of the year.

Cochran is slated to oversee an Appropriations Committee markup on Thursday.

Cochran missed the last two weeks that the Senate was in session. Any further absence would cause major problems for Senate Republicans.

“Another convenient excuse for Mitch. “

Wasnt the Thadster shoehorned in by McConnell and a bunch of filthy tricks over a real soldier?

“We’ve gotten several “urological procedures” from McConnell since the last election”

Using broken fragile glass straw-like catheters. Taking them out is a bitch.

Again, the 18’ will be a very different Senate. Those of us with senior parents, know their is no simple procedures especially urilogicial. I will now add his name to others that I think will not be their in 18’ including DiFi who will be challenged from the left, Corner and Flake gone, and McCain might not be here as well. That is just a start....

If Bryant appointed anyone else other than McDaniel, Wicker will have hell to pay next year

>>The massive fraud in the runoff should’ve had the GOP Senate majority deny Cochran being seated in Jan 2015.<<

The travesty you speak of was the last straw for me and my support for the RNC. Since then I have not donated a dime to them, and what those slimy RINOs have done to undermine the President has only hardened my resolve to NEVER AGAIN contribute to any Republican organization.

Yeah, it was truly a disgusting spectacle. Unfortunately, in TN, the Dubya White House and the execrable Tokyo Rove were behind recruiting liberal RINO Establishment types for both our Senate seats (Lamar! in 2002 and Corker in 2006). The Conservatives wanted well-respected (but cash poor) Congressman Ed Bryant for the ‘02 opening, but couldn’t overcome the flood of money for Lamar! (who lied back in 1996 he’d never run for office again), and they sandbagged Bryant again in 2006.

I would be utterly floored if Bryant defied Barbour and appointed McDaniel. Barbour may insist on being appointed when Cochran croaks.

Yup! There is way too much staff in DC! There’s a lot to do to fix it, but one of the main things would be to limit the staff - each Congresscritter should be getting paid the average for the district they represent, and get maybe 3-5x that amount to spend on staff. Anything more than that comes out of their own pocket!

You know the definitions for the difference between major surgery and minor surgery, don’t you?

If it is on me, it is major surgery.

If it is on someone else, it is minor surgery.

I remember Mississippi. I was so mad at Boss Hogg Barbour and the MS Republican Party. McDaniel won the majority of “Republican” votes in both the primary and runoff but still lost because of Boss Hogg’s slimy and disgusting behavior.

How many candidates do we run for the Senate who are already in their 60s and 70s? With 6-year terms and the power of incumbency, it’s no wonder we end up with geezers in their 80s and 90s.

I mean, Romney is already 70 and talking about running for the senate in Utah. It really is just a vanity position for too many pols.

So they don’t have a vice chairman who can run the committee? Why not?
