Sept. 5 (UPI) -- President Donald Trump on Tuesday declared a federal emergency for Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, which are potentially in the path of Hurricane Irma, the White House said.
Earlier in the day, Florida Gov. Rick Scott asked Trump to make the declaration, which would make federal funds available as the areas prepare for the potentially destructive storm. Irma strengthened into a Category 5 hurricane Tuesday....

Florida is darn good about watching and not waiting until the last minute. Irma is a monster....only hope is that it takes a short eastern turn back to open seas

I’m praying for that. I’m very apprehensive about this storm and fearful of the amount of destruction it would cause.
i’m watching the wind speeds on the various weather stations in its path
i’m seeing a funny thing... this 185+mph monster doesn’t seem to register more then 48mph on the weather stations.

What was the purported monster storm that hit the west coast of South America and then disappeared a year or two ago? Sounds oddly familiar.
O.K. I don’t disagree.
But let me ask, is it O.K., or is it wrong that there has not been any federal emergency decree issued for Montana - with fires burning over most of its western half?
Yes, there is lots of hype, albeit for a powerful storm.
