Dear AMSA,
The Charlottesville travesty was a direct affront to both AMSA and American values. As the AMSA(American Medical Student Association) Fellow, I strongly condemn and denounce racist, xenophobic, anti-Semitic, and white supremacist ideology, or any such ideals that seek to embrace racial or ethnic superiority at the expense of equality, social justice, and health, civil, and human rights.
AMSA believes that these rights are essential to the protection of human dignity and are applicable to all individuals. We also respect the primacy of civil rights, even in the heightened need for security, and therefore condemn hate crimes. From Tamir Rice and Eric Garner to Philando Castile and so many others, remember the names of lives lost to injustice, as well as Heather Heyer and those like her who were murdered by countering that injustice.
We mourn the loss of innocent lives suffered by terrorist attacks, systemic inequality, and supremacist beliefs here and all over the world, as well as innocent lives suffered due to response to those terrorist attacks. Never underestimate the power of calling something what it is.
Recognize the influence your voice has to empower the agency of the marginalized, and to amplify the message of equality and justice for all. If your Congressional leaders have done so, be sure to call their offices and thank them.

I’m Jewish and don’t need your stupidity to “protect” me from the far-right, while you protect the “far-left.
I’ve been among Nazis and the Klan long before you were born and you don’t know dick about them.
I’ve also been deep into the communist movements and know more about them then you ever will, esp. with your blind mental derangement syndrome of “No threat from the Left”.
Stick to medicine, something you supposedly know about (I had a doctor and two nurses in the family and many friends who are/were doctors, again long before you were born, so I know quality when I see it. Racism, homophobia, anti-Semitism, and what the fuck else you mentioned, never was a part of their professionalism).
Just stick to healing the sick and saving lives. There are those of us who know how to deal with the reds and Nazis. Been at it for 52 years, with some time in Nam, so stand aside fool. You’re an ignorant amateur in a professional’s game and that always bodes ill for the amateur.
