This is posted under vanity Please anyone who smokes please stop I have had health problems associated with smoking and cost a lot of money. Almost lost my left arm
Amen !
Pretty sure you're right. :)
Of course genetics dictates how long we live if an accident doesn't get us. The thing with smoking though is some people will keep on living but they get COPD and have to use oxygen all the time. That's a real pain in many ways and never being able to really catch their breath is a terrible feeling. The quality of life is all but gone for those who were used to being active.
I quit in 2001 for the last time. Quitting smoking for good was the most difficult thing I've ever done in my life. I truly wish cigs had never been invented. They make it too easy to get hooked and continue with the habit/addiction. My sister still smokes and she has more to live for but since I know how hard it is to quit; I don't ever say anything.

Mom never smoked, took good care of herself, died of massive cancer at 49 y/o. Dad is mid 80’s, great shape, never smoked.
I have 3 grandparents who smoked into their mid 90’s. 4th grandparent died in the 40’s due to infection after a surgery.
I’m 65, don’t smoke.
That must have been horrible. Someone I know, her husband got Lyme here in SoCal, first case I ever knew, but at first they didn’t know what he had. He was wasting away, with some strange behavior and similar to dementia or hallucinations. He went from being young 40s and healthy to invalid with some neuro issues. FINALLY they dx’ed him with Lyme. It took about a year to recover.
I’m sorry you had it... and twice? Or is that considered a relapse of the first time?
Congratulations! I smoked for years and never tried to quit but knew I had to after seeing my dad die of COPD and mom, although she quit 10-15 years before, die of pancreatic cancer. I really believe it was a God thing because I never, ever, ever get sick but have always stayed away from smoking when I felt nauseous. I came down with the mini flu and realized after 3 days with no smoking, most of the nicotine was out of my system and if I didn’t quit then, I never would. I still felt a tad queasy so it was no problem. I then read that many folks get an upset stomach for 2 weeks after quitting so that was a double blessing. The hardest drug to quit wasn’t hard for me at all. (Also quit alcohol 26 years ago). I’m very grateful and am going on 8 or so years nicotine free. Now for the eating.....
Don’t ignore the warning signs.
They found my problem with a order from the doctor in which I thought was a waste of time and money after having a ultrasound done at the emergency room at the hospital.
The doctor ordered a 2nd ultrasound done on my left shoulder and they found a stenosis in the main artery going to my left arm.
The left arm would get very weak-tired when taking a shower, balance was effected, dizziness, felt like I was going to pass out , not good while driving.
If anyone has experismces like this or unexplained fainting or black outs have a ultrasound done on your left shoulder for a stenosis or for Subclaivian Steals Syndrome... It is very serious.
I was of the same mindset as you are except that the prospect of losing my arm and the proceedure costing me a lot of money gave me a whole new persepctive on smoking.
Yes, I have heard of people living long healthy lives even smoking, but I would not gamble on it.
The problem I had was linked to smoking.
Congratulations! I quit cold turkey Super Bowl Sunday, Jan 20, 1985. I still have medical problems from that crap all these years later, but less severe than if I hadn’t quit. In fact, I’m sure I’d be dead now if I hadn’t stopped. Still get surprisingly powerful cravings, 32 years later! Nasty habit.
I have no doubt it is bad for most folks.
It’s not your call what someone else does with their own freedom.
Butt out.
I vape. Do you?
Thanks for sharing your story. Congratulations. I hope your words help others battling addiction.
gots to protect the peoples...
but bring on the weed...bring it on...weed smoking is much much better health wise then cigarette smoking...NOT
Most of them have "dropped" off, to be replaced by the Apple mafia.
Smart azz................
The smoker mafia used to trot out the statistics for fewer Asian smoking related cancer/death as some sort of qualifier/excuse for their addiction.
Been stopped for 2 years thanks to vaping. The very best thing I have done and cant stand the smell of cigs now.I tell the young people to quit smoking and to try the vape.It is working.
Weed is much safer than alcohol however.
Alcohol should be illegal, it’s one of THE worst drugs.
