“Frames per second”
Of course FPS is frames per second, NOT feet per second. Just wanted to get that out there for a few folks.
I came to that realization myself.
After several seconds of consideration.
Meh. Already knew an AK could fire underwater.
Lethal Weapon 4 would not lie to me.
Ah. Had me saying, “WTF?”
“The oxygen needed to launch the bullet is contained within the bullet...”
Sigh.
This surprises me.
Yep, and the bullet goes about five feet, so possibly not as deadly as the movies. When I was a young and dumb kid, I shot a .45 auto into my dad’s horse watering tank, the bullet only went about a foot or foot and a half and dropped to the bottom. I guess I learned at that point that shooting something underwater was pretty useless. Shooting fish through the ice was another story though.

I used to fire my min-14 into stock tanks from an elevated position. The shock/concusion from the round would kill/stun lots of fish!!
You didn’t have to hit them to kill them.
Turtles are a different story!!
27,450 FPS...
Gonna need a new pool liner.
Concussion grenades work great too!

That’s what you do shooting fish through the ice, the concussion knocks them out, then you chop them out with a hatchet. Fresh fish out of ice cold water fried in January is pretty special.
You can use a handgun or a shotgun.
At that speed it sucked the shooter through the barrel with it.
Patrick Sweeney provided the best layman explanation of the process in the current issue of Guns and Ammo.
It is a simple process, but not really understood by most lay persons.
Quite simply, the oxygen IS in the cartridge, for the easiest understanding for most people.
I’m surprised the extra back pressure didn’t cause it to blow up. It effectively increased the weight of the projectile by quite a bit.
I read an article here a few years ago about bullets and shooting into water. Apparently, just like a human body, the faster it hits the water, the shorter the distance it will travel in the water.
It’s why you can’t jump out of a plane at 5,000 feet into the ocean and do a nice swan dive. Well, you can, but not without dying from the impact, which is akin to hitting concrete.
The bullet is a projectile that is forced from the cartridge when the powder propellant is ignited. The bullet is just along for the ride. The powder behind the bullet does all the work.
AM Shooting Journal failed in this distinction.
