How crazy would I need to be to move to Detroit?

Posted on 07/29/2017 10:37:51 AM PDT by HiTech RedNeck

Back in job market again after end of my current contract. I updated my listings (as a UNIX/LINUX C and C++ expert) on Dice and Monster the other day, and the phone began ringing off the hook.

Well, one recruiter wants to know if I am interested in full time work, direct hire, in Detroit, for the process control of a steel mill whose business is reportedly burgeoning.

This looks like a MAGA move to me, and the recruiter points out that it isn't all decay, there is rebuilding going on too.

My rhetorical question: how crazy does a high tech red neck have to be to make such a move? It can't be all bad -- this is Kid Rock territory after all.

To slum in order to MAGA or not to slum, that is the question.

"Plus you would be right by Ford world headquarters. And check out the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village while you’re there."

The Rouge River Tour aka the F-150 Plant Tour that you get from the Museum/Village as they bus you their is even cooler than Disney with the Robot Laser show build a scale F-150.

Where did you ever get a science degree you silly bully?

And you keep on skipping over the concept of relative humidity. As long as you are... you deserve to have it rubbed in your face. What it’s likely to be like in your home or car is a different story.

Detroit made it big because it was a shipping port. Which won’t work too well if you’re ice-bound much of the year, which Detroit is not. Where else are you going to produce loads of steel and cars and such, at least until lefty politics ruined the place. (Talk about a punishment zone. That was earned through stupidity, not through circumstance.)

They get 42 inches of snow a year.

Still making it up as you go I see. They get about 100 inches/year.

Up here where my husband and I live we get 130 or more inches/year. Everyone here uses a snowblower because it is dry powder and you can just blow it away.

Oh look more name calling. How typical. it’s funny how the folks that do the most insulting and name calling are always the ones who insist everyone else is bad. Meanwhile:

OBJECTIVELY COLD AND HUMID.

Hey, I gotta laugh so I won’t stew about Stew.

It might not be the best place in the world for someone with Seasonal Affective Disorder. Neither would Seattle be. But high tech rednecks tend to stay indoors a lot anyhow.

Maybe I’ll call Kid Rock when I’m rich and famous and see if I can wangle a hunting invitation.

So we can drool over Wyandotte while he drools over his blue skies and swamp coolers. Really, just about everything on earth is a trade off. Eskimos would say, you call Detroit cold? You gotta be kidding us, call us and tell us it’s cold when all you can live on is whale because nothing else can be had where you are.

OK, enjoy your swamp coolers. What’s the harder resource to get where you are, power or water?

steel mill whose business is reportedly burgeoning.

If it looks like the burgeoning will last, suggest you invest in some real estate. Rental apartment buildings in 'hoods on the way up can really pay off. Location, location, location, though.

It’s relative, based on spoiled-arse USA’ian conventions. Ask the American Indians including the Eskimos.

No. It’s humid, based on being... HUMID.

Yeah you’re being a typical bully.

But again if you play with a deck of 40 cards and I have 52 and the jokers, I can expect a different outcome from my game.

“Humider” than some other places.

I have lived my whole life in places, except where I visited rarely (like Albuquerque) where a swamp cooler would never work.

I don’t know why you have a weed up your behind about swamp coolers.

More name calling. The more you need to call names the more you prove you know you don’t have the facts or the logic. All you have is insisting the person who keeps proving you wrong is a big meanie.

One thing I have observed about bullies is that they play fast and loose with the fallacy of the excluded middle.

I find no point in raging at these bullies if they are stubborn, like you. I just laugh at them knowing God is wiser.

Well if you want to be that silly, any place with more than 0% is objectively humid.

You are going to have to try harder, silly bully. It’s a dry stupidity.
