University professors are not taking kindly to the latest Pew Research poll numbers showing Republican-leaning voters have an unreceptive view of academia, and some are pointing the finger of blame at conservative media.
The June 2017 Pew survey showed 58 percent of right-leaning voters reported higher education has a negative impact on the country. Only 36 percent of Republicans polled held a favorable view a hefty double-digit loss from the 54 percent favorability polled just two years ago.

The wicked witch is dead!
BTW, go to settings and turn off auto play. :)
36% favorable is too high
Half of the so-called institutions of higher education in the US could close and the nation would be better off for it.
And make that ALL of the Ivy League.
Well, aren't they? 😀🙃😁😂
Typical liberal response: If you don’t like what people think about you, blame the ones who told the truth.
Those who work evil in darkness hate the light of day. But like Hillery it’s not those who expose their deeds wherein the blame lies.
What conservative media? There is no need to help anybody have a dismal view of academia.
First off, there are WAY too many “students” on college campuses across the country, “studying” nothing significant and running up levels of debt that shall be well past the age of retirement getting paid off, if ever. Secondly, even after they do get the piece of paper signifying they have sat through many stultifying hours of drones droning about subjects with virtually no intellectual content, nobody will hire a person who only knows how to spout irrelevant nonsense.
Real academic achievement can be accomplished at far lower per-student cost and in much less time if “higher education” is only doled out to those who are READY to learn something, and that something has a marketable value. What ever happened to “work-study”? I was milking cows while I was going to school, and there are many people who would not stoop to do such a continuing, twice-a-day, seven-day-a-week task year around.
Academia constructed their dismal view. Outsiders finally see it for what it is.
Yes, the STEM fields are not the problem. The fields that have the word “studies” in their title are where the leftists are found. Unfortunately, many of these “studies” fields are the easy-grade courses where ignorant students often flock. The degrees are worthless and unmarketable in the working world.
Academia is wrong in blaming others. They are known by their works, and a dominant mass of their work is not education but political indoctrination.
I blame state legislators for not cracking down on this nonsense.
1) Schools should only be subsidized based on the number of graduates in each major that get job placement in their field of study within six months or a year after graduation. If they want to study medieval feminist lesbian literature, fine, but the taxpayers should not pay for a single dime of it.
2) The school loan system is out of control, and it is ruining the lives of students and graduates, so states should prohibit education with loans for the aforementioned bogus majors. It is almost so bad that states may consider loan caps even for desirable majors, offering instead that money that previously flowed from loans direct to the schools beyond that cap instead go directly to the students.
That is, for a given major, a student may go up to $75k in debt, but any costs beyond that come from the state appropriations to the university. It still goes to the school, but no longer lets the school “double dip” with both appropriations and tuition.
In a just world, the DoJ would be on campuses pressing charges against many of these people for civil rights violations.
How many profs served a hitch in the military?
Asymptotic to zero.
IT'S THE REPUBLICANS FAULT YOU HATE US!
Now get out of here
And those in the universities think we are the “great unwashed hillbillies.”
If the Universities hadn’t become indoctrination camps, they would have more respect.
