Scared robots will take your job? Just get a new one, says this CEO

The race to create A.I. and robotic technology that will change the way we work and live is dominating countless industries.

But the chaos and disruption these ground-breaking fields are set to have on numerous areas of the economy, the job market, the banking system and the transportation industry have also incited fear.

Alibaba Chairman Jack Ma has previously warned that society could see decades of "pain" thanks to new technologies.

While Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk says that humans need to merge with machines to become a sort of cyborg if we want to stay relevant.

But forgetting wild predictions for the future, one chief executive believes he has the answer to one of the biggest tech questions of today: Will a robot take my job?

Speaking to CNBC in an episode of Life Hacks Live, VaynerMedia CEO and social media guru Gary Vaynerchuk said those working in potentially replaceable jobs need to start learning a new trade for the digital world.

"Robots taking over jobs are an issue for people that do jobs that robots are going to take over," said Vaynerchuk.

"People have lost their jobs forever. Jobs are always lost."

The CEO added that he didn't "feel bad" for the likes of truck drivers who aren't taking important steps to adapt.....

Reminds me of a certain Zuckerberg lackey who said that those displaced in the Rust Belt and coal industry should just suck it up and become a coder.

Yeah, easy for you to say. Tell that to a 54 year old with a mortgage, two kids and college and a car payment.

Offshoring is a much bigger threat to American blue collar workers than automation. Offshoring slows down advancement in robotics as the unlimited supply of cheap labor suppresses innovation.

JUNK SCIENCE

None of these Uber rich CEOs have Engineering or tech backgrounds.

Bill Gates DROPOUT
Zuckerberg DROPOUT

They are know nothing, fortunate monopolists. Some are lucky accountant, bean counters. All love big government. They fear competing.

Name one reliable robot. Tablet smart phones are low quality China junk where you need 8 different pc gadgets to sustain your workload.

A man's got a right to make a living. If robots get in the way of that then robots will have to go. One way or another the Taters will be putting a roof over their heads and food on the table for many generations to come. If people can find a way to include robots in that world then more power to them. If not then there won't be any robots.

Go back to school.

Make big bucks in Robot Repair.

.......................................

On the bright side, if the lefties that demand high minimum wage rates get their other demand: the shutting down of power plants, oil refineries, there won’t be electricity to run the robots, and it will be back to using people for all labor, by hand, it will take a hundred laborers to do what one can do now, so there will be plenty of jobs

Is this guy Dr Suess? Sorry can't take anyone serious who makes these kind of statements. Too much generalities and doublespeak.

Gates and Zuckerberg are not monopolists and they are a far cry from “know nothing”. They both sure have tech backgrounds. They are both crazy liberals, but that doesn’t diminish their success. So they dropped out...so what? We live in an age where any information we want can be accessed for free (or darn close) so our means to educate ourselves is only limited by desire and aptitude. The age of “getting a degree” in order to know something is coming to an end for the same reason that automation is going to force people out of certain jobs.

Automation is going to happen and no amount of complaining is going to stop some people from losing jobs. Do you really want technology to just stop advancing so certain job functions are made safe? That doesn’t sound like a conservative position to me. It didn’t work for the Luddites either.

Then you know how much easier it is to break them than it is to make them :)

I don't want to have to go there, but I will.

Offshoring slows down advancement in robotics as the unlimited supply of cheap labor suppresses innovation.

The supply of cheap labor is not unlimited.

Chinese manufacturers are facing this problem. Cheap labor is no longer so cheap.

Consider the example of one Chinese company which produces mobile phones:

According to Monetary Watch, the Changying Precision Technology Company focuses on the production of mobile phones and uses automated production lines. The factory used to be run by 650 employees, but now just 60 people get the entire job done, while robots take care of the rest. Luo Weiqiang, the general manager, says the number of required employees will drop to 20 at one point. Despite this reduction in staff, not only is the factory producing more equipment (a 250% increase), but it’s also ensuring better quality.
The Chinese are losing their cheap labor advantage and are scrambling to fix the problem. We need to stay ahead of them. After all, like the internet, robotics is largely an American invention.

Gates has never had a tech background. He is a master salesman

He couldn’t write a line of code or produce a piece of hardware if his life depended on it

The local tech college offers a few classes for industrial robotics and I am looking at signing up. It’s part of an overall industrial technology program.

I am getting burned out in IT.

As a reminder, I have a copy of the class list on my office board.

Maybe this fall. First of the year is more likely. I’m just a working white guy so I’ll wind up paying the full freight.

Hate to break it to you Garth but the robots won't be going anywhere. Did we get rid of mechanized farm equipment because a tractor displaced countless fieldhands? Nope. And companies aren't going to get rid of robots that replace countless workers either.

Want a job? learn how to fix robots.

We're entering a brave new world where about 4/5th of the population, uneducated and unskilled will be of no use to anyone. It is going to be interesting. I would recommend concentrating on being part of the remaining 1/5th of the population.

Interesting that if a factory closes down completely and lays off 100% of it workforce and is moved to China everyone here seems to think that's OK. It's just the global "free market" at work.

But if a worker loses his job to a robot well that calls for pitch forks and torches.

I don't get it. Offshoring is way worse than automation. At least the automated factory is in the USA and still requires some workers albeit less.
