I would consider, if I were Trump, Ted Cruz.

1. It would prevent Cruz from running for president again in 2020

2. Ted is probably a reliable conservative.

3. He comes from a deep red state where he would be replaced by a conservative.

4. He is young enough to be there a long time.

5. The Senate might have a hard time turning him down.

Note: I was not a Cruz supporter in the election.

You just posted what I was thinking.
And I wanted to throttle Cruz after his disastrous appearance at the Republican convention.

The libs would pull every dirty trick in the book if Trump nominated Cruz. There would be more shootings.

I would never worry about Cruz not following the constitution.

I suggested back in early 2016 that BHO should have nominated Cruz for the Scalia seat, that it would take Trump’s main rival out of the race and would establish a precedent of replacing conservative with conservative and liberal with liberal. Needless to say he didn’t take my advice :> so Cruz is now available for any replacement, and the Senate would confirm, just to get him out of the Senate.

I second that for the same reasons and I was a Cruz supporter until he politically stuttered when attacked by Trump. He has not the fortitude for the supreme political job. As a Justice he would be insulated from most o that and his Constitutional instincts seem to be solid. My only caveat is that I fear he would be a vote for amnesty.
