During one of those massive, robotic rallies in Pyongyang, making sure Kim is there, nuke them.

Why don't we take out the USS Pueblo with a Tomahawk missile?

IMHO the us should begin treating NK as a free fire zone and pick them apart using them as a test bed for new weapons.

Although it is a tragic event it must be remembered that Otto went to North Korea and though a childish prank would be overlooked. It does happen in many countries. Otto caused his own death because he thought he could get away with something. Sad as it is it was not this nations problem but one that he created by thinking he was above the laws of a land of brutal tactics. Life is cheap in countries like North Korea. Let this be a lesson to those who travel to countries that are ruled with an iron fist. Obey and respect when you are a guest otherwise don’t go. This is the second person I know of that has died at the hands of the Kim family. The other I personally knew. He had grandiose ideas before he went. I warned him that his ideas would send him home in a box. It did many years ago and almost caused a outbreak of hostilities. Our children make stupid decisions and they do have consequences. Even though I feel sadness for the parents they should have done a better job of raising their son.

"Trip to North Korea Fred Warmbier stated that his son Otto was traveling in China at the end of 2015 when he saw a company offering trips to North Korea. He decided to go because he was adventurous, according to his father, who accused the tour operator of specifically targeting young Westerners with slogans like, "This is the trip your parents don't want you to take!" Fred Warmbier said the China-based tour operator, Young Pioneer Tours, advertised the trip as safe for U.S. citizens.[2]

Warmbier traveled to North Korea for a five-day New Year's tour of the country organized by Young Pioneer Tours. Ten other U.S. citizens were in his tour group.[3][17][18][19][20] During his stay at the Yanggakdo International Hotel in Pyongyang, Warmbier allegedly stole a propaganda sign from a staff-only floor of the hotel.[21] The poster said, "Let's arm ourselves strongly with Kim Jong-il's patriotism!". Harming such items with the name or image of a North Korean leader is considered a serious crime by the government.[22]"

WTF was he doing in China? What possessed him to take a side trip to NK? Seems like there was a group a while back that thought they should go hiking in Iran. Weren't they also U. VA. students?

Someone has to say it: WTF was this guy really doing in NK in the first place, and why was he stupid enough to steal something from his hotel?

Nice guy, everyone loved him, local here to me in Cincinnati, great family, life cut short, some much promise, etc.

A Holiday in NK? Was he nuts? I think it is far more likely that he was a CIA spy than that he was “taking a little Holiday” related to a five day trip to China. And, who takes a 5 day trip to China other than a business person or government liaison? 5 days? Including NK? I’m not buying it.

When rogue nations think they can snatch our citizens on fake charges and use them as political pawns to get concessions (a practice that became standard operating procedure under Bill Clinton) it's time to take a stand. North Korea and Iran have both been doing this stuff.

In the ancient world nobody ever messed with a roman citizen because if you did you knew you could count on a roman legion hunting you down, wherever you went. For instance Julius Caesar was captured by pirates when he was a young man and held for ransom. When the ransom was paid and Caesar was released he hunted down every one of the pirates and crucified them. That's just how they rolled. And rulers all over the western world knew that unless they wanted war, don't mess with Romans.

But that was a different time. I'm not suggesting that we go to war over a single citizen. But I am suggesting that we follow a strict policy of no concessions, no ransoms, and swift harsh consequences. Seizing assets, freezing imports/exports, expelling their citizens, etc. Make it very painful with no benefits if you play this game. And then it would stop.

I say cut off the Chinese banks that North Korea uses for economic support. Build a wall between North and South Korea. If conditions cause a mass exodus, the wall will prevent escape into South Korea. The exodus will be into China. That is very bad for China. Make China aware that consequences for North Korea are consequences for them. China, who supplies 90% of North Korea’s food, will step up pressure with North Korea to reign in their manic behavior.

Damn I wasn’t expecting to read this. Sad. John Kerry I have always had a bad feeling about that man and I think he’s a very cold person. 15 years hard labor for taking down a freaking poster is horrific enough but returning the guy in such a state @#$ we can’t let that go unpunished.

Would be a shame to start a war over a kid stupid-enough to go on a “college outing” to North Korea. I have no “sorry” feelings for this kind of stupididity.
