Bill Nye Called Out CNN for Giving Climate Change Denial A Platform on Earth Day
The Mary Sue ^ | April 23, 2017 | Marykate Jasper

Posted on 04/23/2017 10:51:35 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Bill Nye was invited to speak on CNN’s New Day Saturday program for Earth Day, along with May Boeve, the executive director of green action group 350.org; and William Happer, a climate change skeptic and physicist at Princeton. Nye was clearly exasperated with Happer’s claims, and annoyed that CNN had invited him. To enthusiastic nods from Boeve, Nye said, “I will say, much as I love the CNN, you’re doing a disservice by having one climate change skeptic and not 97 or 98 scientists or engineers concerned about climate change.”

(CNN is hardly the first media organization to give these ideas a platform. The New York Times just hired a climate change denier for their editorial board.)

Happer was, honestly, an embarrassment. He argued that increased carbon dioxide was actually good for the environment, stating, “You can see the greening of the earth already, from the additional carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.”

Happer also claimed that he denies climate change because “the temperature is not rising nearly as fast as the alarmists’ computer models predicted…So the whole basis for the alarmism is not true.” In short, the world is not enough of a hellscape yet for Happer to believe in climate change; this type of thinking was literally the punchline of an Onion article.

“That’s completely wrong,” Nye snapped. “Say what you will, but you have it absolutely wrong…He’s cherry-picking a certain model. The heat ended up in the ocean. This is not controversial in mainstream science, everybody.”

Nye continued: “We’ve got an extraordinary situation here in the United States, where climate change deniers have managed to introduce the idea that some uncertainty – say plus or minus 2% – about the temperature of the ocean is somehow equivalent to plus or minus 100%. Now, everybody, science is political. We use politics to decide where to invest our intellect and treasure. But when it comes to climate change, that is not controversial in the scientific community, any more than the law of universal gravitation.”

Both Nye and Boeve also emphasized the economic benefits of investing in green energy.

Boeve said Trump’s antipathy toward clean energy “doesn’t make any sense, based on what we know about the clean energy economy. If Trump and his ilk were serious about this problem [of creating jobs], they would actually invest in the technologies of the future…and create millions of jobs in the process.”

Nye agreed: “If we were to [invest in green technology], we would have at least 3 million new jobs in the United States that could not be outsourced…We could move forward and we could export this technology. We could be world leaders in this, instead of wringing our hands and cherry-picking data.”

“If you suppress science, if you pretend that climate change isn’t a real problem, you will fall behind other countries that do invest in science—that do invest in basic research…” Nye continued. “If we suppress science, the United States will not fare as well in the international marketplace, and we will lose business.”

Happer also made a deeply ignorant comparison between the Paris Climate Agreement and Neville Chamberlain’s appeasement of Hitler. Asked what Trump should do about the agreement, he said, “It doesn’t make any scientific sense. It’s just a silly thing. To me, it’s very similar to the Munich Agreements that Mr. Chamberlain signed.”

CNN host Victor Blackwell was aghast. “How is this comparable to Neville Chamberlain’s appeasement of Hitler?” he asked, “How is that an appropriate comparison?”

“It is an appropriate comparison,” said Happer, “because it was a treaty that was not going to do any good. This treaty also will not do any good.” What is it with Trump’s cronies and diminishing the horror of the Holocaust?

Boeve summed up the panel neatly: “It speaks for itself. We’ve got a movement that’s trying to move the world forward to the clean energy economy, to protect our communities from climate change, and we’ve got a conversation that is stuck in the past.”

Hopefully, CNN and other organizations will stop giving that regressive conversation a platform.

True: “Happer ... argued that increased carbon dioxide was actually good for the environment, stating, “You can see the greening of the earth already, from the additional carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.”

False: Author thinks the world is a ‘hellscape’. Very false.

“In short, the world is not enough of a hellscape yet for Happer to believe in climate change; this type of thinking was literally the punchline of an Onion article.”

Bill Nye is still not a scientist.

So Bill Nye, a man with a bachelor's mechanical engineering degree that he used for all of about eight years -- and that was thirty years ago -- knows more about atmospheric physics than a Princeton PhD physicist who is current in his field.

One of the craziest things I've heard in a very long time was a few weeks ago on History Channel. It was a program about the greatest conquerors of antiquity.

Some "scholar" claimed that Genghis Khan altered the climate when his armies wiped out millions of people who otherwise would have been exhaling carbon dioxide across the steppes of Eurasia.

I love the scene in Braveheart when Longshanks throws his son's military advisor/lover out the window. I think of that scene everytime Bill Nyes's lying piehole is given air time.

"The heat ended up in the ocean"

Hiding, no doubt.

"...they would actually invest in the technologies of the future…and create millions of jobs in the process."

Obama did that and it cost millions of taxpayer dollars when the companies flopped.

And never was one.

The state of his scientific knowledge is thirty years out of date, and the dimbulb author of this article (and Nye himself, bizarrely) thinks that a guy who plays a scientist on TV knows than a PhD physicist who is current in his field.

Interesting scientific theory which can’t be questioned.

Almost seems like ... religion.

Speaking of which, just saw a story this month that the amino acids needed for life on earth couldn’t survive the heat present when the Earth was formed. Therefore, scientists believed they might have come from comets striking the planet. ABG. Anything but God.

Ben Stein’s movie on evolution had an interview with Richard Dawkins. He got Dawkins to admit aliens may have been responsible for life on earth. Aliens!

Back to ‘global warming’ - now ‘climate change’ - Rush has been on point on this topic. This is all about anti-capitalism power grab and wealth distribution. Rich counties ‘owe’ poor countries for this scientific theory and all industrialization is evil. It’s yet another power grab by the Left. That’s why they don’t allow a questioning of the orthodoxy.

CAGW is all about forcing more gov’t control to stiffle initiative and become a full rationing society.

Don’t Mormonism, Scientology and several other religions believe in an Alien Genesis? And then there’s David Icke and David Barclay.

Humanity will benefit from climate change.

At least if it gets warmer.

If it gets colder then well, it will be detrimental for humanity.

Scientology believes in alien origin of life on Earth.

Mormons? I’d never read that, except that they believe Mormons will become ‘gods’ of their own planets and fill it with spirit children (some kind of spirit sex past death). They also believe Lucifer and Jesus were brothers. But aliens? I didn’t hear that one.

The point is they’ll accept ANYTHING but God. Aliens? Sure thing. As long as it’s not God.

Now call the aliens ‘intelligent design’ and they’ll flip and scream, “Religion!!!!”

> and create millions of jobs in the process.

I hate when they use the “jobs” argument. People don’t work simply because they like to work. They work to create something of value so they can improve their own standard of living. Inefficient, subsidized jobs are *not* good for the economy any more than digging a giant hole in the desert is good for the economy. It’s just wasted labor, which is actually a valuable resource.

I do not understand how this leaves God out. My bible says that God created the heavens and the earth, and then brought forth various kinds of life on earth. But, it is completely silent on how God did this. If God brought forth life by supplying some of the pieces for life from comets (which He created) I see no inconsistency.

He got Dawkins to admit aliens may have been responsible for life on earth. Aliens!

Now, think long and hard about these aliens. The God in my bible is not of this earth. He existed before the earth and in fact created it and brought forth life on it. No matter how you slice it, God is an alien being and we believe He is responsible for life on earth. What is so startling about that?
