Freedom of information, speech and the press is firmly rooted in western democratic thought, and protected by the U.S. Constitution. But in California, apparently that western democratic thought isn’t so free anymore.

An East Sacramento brewery owner who faced a very public protest of his restaurant after he posted a critique of the women’s march on Facebook, has been forced to close his business.

“I am disgusted at all of the people and politicians that supported this anti-Trump event,” Murphy posted on his personal Facebook page in January—not on the Facebook page for Twelve Rounds Brewing Company.

Apparently the Canada Free Press is unfamiliar with was the First Amendment to the United States Constitution actually means. There’s no right to freedom from backlash against your speech by private individuals/entities.

How was he forced to close his business? I don’t get it. There’s lots of things you can do to fight back including hiring protestors to protest the protestors, which brings publicity and therefore probably sales. And is it a restaurant or bar? How do protestors interfere with brewing and distribution? The guy should not have given up. Rename it Liberty Beer, or Free Speech Brews!

Among many great men, Isaac Newton, Thomas Paine, and Benjamin Franklin all had to resort to anonymity to protect themselves from reprisals. In these times “of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act”, a small business owner may want to prudently follow their examples.

True, but the left's anti-free speech mentality has infected, and even dominates, public institutions such as colleges and universities. For example, college administrations are using exorbitant security fees to keep conservative speakers of off campuses. They establish absurd and irrational membership requirement to prevent Christian groups from gaining access to school facilities. They create miniscule "free speech" zones - with all sorts of approvals required - outside of which speech is strictly regulated or even prohibited.

But I find Canadians in general don’t understand our First Amendment. Most of the ones I have spoken to don’t understand it and don’t support free speech. They have only limited free speech in their country.
