The behind-the-scenes story of the staredown between a few dozen conservative true believers and a novice president.
....In a conference room in the Rayburn House Office Building, the group met that evening and made a secret pact. No member would commit his vote before consulting with the entire group not even if Trump himself called to ask for an on-the-spot commitment. The idea, hatched by Freedom Caucus Vice Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), was to bind them together in negotiations and ensure the White House or House leaders could not peel them off one by one. Twenty-eight of the group's roughly three dozen members took the plunge. Three weeks later, Republican leaders, as many as 25 votes short of passage, were forced to pull their bill from the House floor. This is a defining moment for our nation, but it's also a defining moment for the Freedom Caucus, said group leader Mark Meadows about a week before the doomed vote was scheduled. I don't think there's a more critical vote for the Freedom Caucus than this." The unpublicized pledge sowed the seeds of Fridays collapse of ....

They were losing RINOs, too, but Trump is blaming the Freedom Caucus.
“Proud of my Rep. Dave Brat....”

As you should be. Unfortunately, I’m beginning to think that President Trump may be “learning the wrong lesson” from this. The RINOs in the White House may be successful in convincing him that the Freedom Caucus is the enemy-—I hope I’m wrong.
Typical bait and switch. Start the campaign season with a pledge to repeal, then when voters buy in, add the term replace. When it fails, blame the few members who stuck to the original pledge.
NOTHING passes congress unless they get their cut of the pie (money or stocks) guess how Obamacare passed democrats always grease the wheels.
Who woud make money off the deal of killing Obamacare??.
Except for the fact that it wasn’t a repeal bill.
It was rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
If you have a chronic medical condition that costs $15,000 per year to treat, you pay $15,000 out of your own pocket to deal with it.
Here's how a free market in health care would never work:
If you have a chronic medical condition that costs $15,000 per year to treat, you get the government to find two healthy people with no medical expenses and force all three of you to pay $5,000 each for "insurance."
Most Americans -- and probably a disproportionate number of older voters who supported Donald Trump -- would tell you that the latter is exactly what they want.
Proud of my Rep. Dave Brat.
Obamacare II was not a repeal, it was simply rearranging.
We have Obamacare 2 now. Dave Brat and his checkers playing supporters own it lock, stock and barrel. Congratulations on your new baby.
Insightful.
Well worth the time.
Best explanation of what was happening that tv sound bites could never capture.
No, we have the original Obamacare, your preferred version was pulled because it would not pass either the House or the Senate.
Guess you like that DACA is still handing out work permits to illegal aliens, too?
The Medicaid Reform and back to the States to run was huge. Might not see that again for a long time.
Likewise.
I'm disgusted by some here siding with Ryan, PeRINO, Geraldo, Bill Kristol, and the rest of the GOPe hacks while they slam the Freedom Caucus.
Evidently they want "Jeb!" Trump for President.
Yes, Dave Brat and Freedom Caucus can now PROUDLY wear the Obamacare noose around their neck for ever. They own it lock, stock and barrel.
Some are under the delusion Obamacare will wither on the vine. That will not be allowed to happen by the establishment of both parties, with FED allowed to print treasury bonds without limit.
“Why didnt Trump sell free markets as the replacement to 0bamaCare?”
The insurance companies wrote ObamaCare because they wanted a guaranteed stream of revenue.
All of the people forced onto Obama Care will need to buy insurance from somewhere when it is repealed.
Where are they going to buy? From the same insurance companies that will be thrilled to sell them all packages that will now cost a fortune.
So what do people do?
Fake News. There was no Repeal on the table. There was just a tinkering.
Fake news. The FC has had a rule since the beginning to vote as a block. As I recall, that’s why Louie Gohmert isn’t a member.
The Democrats still own, sorry you did not get to take ownership of it with Obamacare II
My own Congressman said he was going to vote against the bill, and he's far from the Freedom Caucus members on the political spectrum.
He never had to explain why he was opposing it because it was obvious: Only 16% of the voters in my district supported the Ryan bill.
